Get ready to LOL because this new Stonewall trailer parody is seriously funny.
In case you haven’t heard, people are pretty pissed about the trailer for Roland Emmerich’s new Stonewall film, which hits theaters this September. The main assessment has been that the preview whitewashes gay history by centering around a caucasian, cis-gender male rather than the trans people and people of color who were actually at the Stonewall Inn during the time of the 1969 riots.
Now, Brooklyn-based comedian Heather Dockray has remade the trailer to reflect people’s criticisms, as well as remixed it with some of Emmerich’s cinematic masterpieces, including the disaster movies 2012, Independence Day, Godzilla and The Day After Tomorrow.
Check out the hilarious trailer below…

I wasn’t looking at Queerty when “Milk” went into production and started making the rounds but did that movie get as much attention as “Stonewall” is on this site? Does someone at Queerty have a vested interest in Stonewall’s success or failure? ‘Cause this is the only place I’ve seen any coverage of it and I’m already sick of hearing about it.

Straight media seem to be really invested in undermining this film. I wonder why.
MarionPaige
again, in my opinion, it all comes down to how much advertising The Stonewall movie paid for, or didn’t pay for and, what gay .orgs the movie did or did not donate to. This said,
That scene with the guys on top of the car looks like something from a movie poster for the movie version of Rent.

The trailer parody actually reminded me that Emmerich is responsible for some of the most iconic movie moments.
Too bad they had to lie in order to make the “parody” work. And to whitewash the original trailer.
Brokeback Mountain was also parodied by straights. Gay cowboys was considered to be a too ridiculous concept for them. Now it’s sissies fighting back. Impossible, right?

Inspired by a true story that most of America doesn’t give a shit about.
The Hollywood movie, a chance to finally introduce America to this history, ruined by selfish justice warriors.

@Glücklich: “Stonewall” is the new “Looking”. They will inundate us with all things “Stonewall” until its release, and they will continue to inundate us with even more after it flops. Countdown to all the rollover ads, banners and Stonewall wallpaper this site will undoubtedly be flooded with soon.
@Avery Alvarez: Pop some Midol, buddy.

@Masc Pride: That’s weird advice coming from you, dude.
Take a second off from ranting about femme gay man and your on again/off again relationship with giancarlo?
Chris
Okay, this parody IS funny. ROFL

@Masc Pride:
Thank god for Ad Blocker. Inundate is right!
Challenge to Queerty: Go the next 48 hours without any *hint* of Stonewall coverage, either the incident or the movie.

Implying it was only black and hispanic trans girls there that night.
Implying there were no gay white men.

Yeah, the story has a made-up protagonist. Those are usually done in movies about historical events for legal reasons, unless the film is about specific people. Spoiler alert, there was no Jack or Rose on the Titanic either.
The #notmystonewall part is actually quite fitting, though, since that’s exactly what they’re doing: rewriting their own version of the events.

“Seriously funny”? No, try seriously dumb.

@Glücklich: “I wasn’t looking at Queerty when “Milk” went into production and started making the rounds but did that movie get as much attention as “Stonewall” is on this site?”
Please tell me that you’re not comparing the work of Gus van Sant, a talented and sincere filmmaker, to Roland Emmerich, whose career mostly consists of shitting out crappy commercial films like Universal Soldier, Godzilla, The Day After Tomorrow and 10,000 BC. Mr. Emmerich’s ethos as a director boils down to, “What violent CGI can I use that will most titillate 14 year-old boys?”

Lmaooooo these people need a fucking job. The obsession with this movie is not healthy. Anyway i’m latino and i’m gonna watch it because the guy is cute, i hope there gay sex scenes with him.
Bob LaBlah
Folks, this is sounding more and more like a project this guy is now regretting he took on.

@Finrod:
I can’t compare them because I can’t think of any movie off the top of my head either has directed. I’ll watch a movie if the premise sounds appealing, not based on the director. The last “new” movie I actually went out of my way to see was that Paris Catacombs one. Not much of a movie person here. I do too much flying to enjoy sitting and doing nothing for two-plus hours on my free time.

Hilarious parody. I’d love to see a full feature version.

That was too funny

@animaux: so dies the gay media.Queerty is the worst about it. They want a documentary instead of a movie, so they are dragging it through the mud here.

@travis518: you are what we call tone deaf! Not one criticism has been that only transwomen of color and drag queens and butch lesbians were there. of course whites were there however it was the transgender women of color, Butch lesbians and drag queens that were at the forefront of the movement. They were the actual catalysts for the movement because they received the brunt of the abuse of police because they refused to conform to their assigned genders by the way they dressed and identified. That is according to every documentary done on the movement and every eyewitness account including people who rioted and were arrested. With a true history, chock full of dynamic real characters like Marsha P Johnso, Sylvia Rivera, Ray Castro, Miss Major (who is still alive) they chose to create a fictional white dude to be the center of it all. It’s disrespectful to make these people who were at the center of the movement, supporting characters in their own fucking story. t’they were marginalized then, and this film continues that marginalization.luckily people who know the history of stonewall are not standing for it. Next year a white Hollywood director will make a movie about the civil rights movement and Martin Luther King, Malcom X, and Rosa Arks will all be extra and the lead will be Zac Efron, you mark my words
OzJosh
Judging a film before it’s been seen is just plain idiotic. Those trying to kick up a fuss about Stonewall are transparently doing so to draw attention to themselves, and that is reason enough to completely dismiss them.
Mercurical Memo
Parodies are usually better than the actual film anyway. This one is FUNNY!!! I’ll leave it to Buzzfeed or Funny or Die to flesh out better parodies.
