A new study published by the Archives of Sexual Behavior has found that, when it comes to gay sex, straight guys just can’t get enough.
Researchers spoke to over 24,000 undergraduate students about their same-sex sexual experiences. They found that 1 in 8.5 straight-identifying men have had sex with other men yet don’t consider themselves to be gay or bi.
“Not everybody who has same-sex relationships is secretly gay,” the study’s co-author, Arielle Kuprberg, says. “There was a big disconnect between what people said their sexual orientation was and what their actions were.”
Kuprberg is the director of Undergraduate Studies in Sociology at The University of North Carolina at Greensboro and has written extensively on the subject in the past.
How about we take this to the next level?
Our newsletter is like a refreshing cocktail (or mocktail) of LGBTQ+ entertainment and pop culture, served up with a side of eye-candy.
So what would compel a straight-identifying guy to hookup with another guy in the first place?
Well, Kuprberg says, there are two reasons: 1. Experimentation, and 2. Performance.
One’s early 20s are all about experimenting and trying new things. For many modern undergrads, that includes trying new things between the sheets.
In regards to performance, Metro reports:
So called “performative bisexuality” happens when people (usually women) enjoy sexual contact with other women because of the attention that it garners and the arousal that it provokes in others. It’s more about reaction than the actual act, which is why people who experiment with performative bisexuality don’t usually consider themselves to be genuinely gay or bi.
So, there you have it folks, yet another study confirming what we already knew: straight guys are a lot more gay than people give them credit for. Also, sexuality is fluid.

Googling this study for more info, I found some flaws and this article is misleading.
According to the study it was from an analysis of the Online College Social Life Survey – so it was an online survey.
It did consist of 24,000 students. Of those 24,000 only 383 men had sex with at least 1 other man and 312 women had sex with at least 1 other woman
Mostly it seems that the women of the survey had more gay sex but still identified as straight
After reading the study, I wouldn’t take the same leap of faith that Queerty does by saying “straight guys cannot stop having gay sex – study finds” because it didn’t really find that

I left mhoffman953’s comment because it provides a legitimate critique with valid points.
I deleted all the comments that were nothing more than “Queerty sucks”. Please review our comment policy if you have questions about why your comment was deleted… it addresses this specifically.

Can you say “in the closet ” OMG

Oh, dream on, bitches. This article was designed to titillate our hottest sex-with-straight-guys fantasies.

Back in the late feudal period when I was in college, it was not unusual for a straight guy to take a walk on the wild side before settling in for whatever he was going to do – which back then usually mean marrying some woman, moving to a tract home in the suburbs, raising a couple kids and driving to and from work daily. I had a very amusing time sleeping with straight guys in the dorms, sometimes only once and sometimes several times before they decided to move on. It’s called experimentation.
Herman75
Yup. Same here.
I assumed when they realized I had my fill of them, they decided to stick with women. 😉
After college I was surprised how often married guys showed interest.

What do they mean by “sex” here?

going to guys place with beer and getting a b.j. – with me they might have brought beer but it was much, much more. it always amazed them i didn’t pretend to be straight. especially since they wanted to see gay porn.

There’s a difference between enjoyment and desire. I have been with men who consider themselves straight, but who enjoy getting their dicks sucked, regardless of whether it’s a male or female doing it. I don’t consider them bisexual because they don’t desire having sex with a man. Call them open-minded or flexible or just plain horny. But, they are not bisexual.

““There was a big disconnect between what people said their sexual orientation was and what their actions were.” ”
Interesting – when there is a big disconnect between what people say about themselves, and what they actually do, we call that lying – until the subject is homosexuality.
If, for example, someone claims to be vegan, but eats meat, we acknowledge that they are not vegan and are lying about it.
Looks like researchers are desperate to minimize the existence of homosexuality.

This is not the first time that an online poll with “Self Identifying” people was used to try to push the narrative that straight people have gay sex.
This idea the author pushes seems homophobic. It seems to fall along the lines of “Oh, don’t worry there you hetros, you can sleep with all of the same sex people you want, but still don’t have to worry about being one of those horrible lgbts!!!”
Seriously, this is ridiculous.
Heywood Jablowme
@DCguy/Cam: So you prefer that young people never experiment at all?
DCguy
Awwww, adorable, I point out the homophobia of telling people they can hae all of the same sex, sex they want and NEVER have to admit to not being straight and you try to pretend the conversation is about not allowing people to experiment.
Translation: You’re defending the closet and didn’t like that I pointed that out.
Greg
I think they make it up for themselves for the reasons you mention.

omg… sounds like Jaxton/Brian/Jason got a job with Metro?
Cylest Brooks
OMG I thought those were your words at first and I was like… come on Heywood!
Honestly, that quote from Metro is pretty far from reality. I agree, it sounds like something Jaxton would say.

Considering the original source (https://link.springer.com/article/10.1007%2Fs10508-018-1194-7) and not the Metro (and therefore Queerty) source, the survey showed 12% of men ,whose last hook-up was with a same-sex partner, identified as straight. It means 12% of 383 men (=46 men) and 25% of 312 women (=78 women) among the 10 000 students…
We are far from the Metro and Queerty article’s assertion: “They found that 1 in 8.5 straight-identifying men have had sex with other men yet don’t consider themselves to be gay or bi.”
It might be true, but that’s not what the survey showed.
PinkoOfTheGange
It is phrased backwards.
It should read: of the men, that reported having relations with other men, 12% identified as straight.

This isn’t limited to college kids; all young adults experiment. I went into the US Army out of high school and had encounters with numerous guys my age and older, some of whom were married, but considered themselves straight.
KaiserVonScheiss
Yeah, that headline if flat wrong. Experimenting with the same sex once or twice in college doesn’t make someone gay anymore than a gay person experimenting with the opposite sex makes them straight.
Paco
“Gay guys absolutely cannot stop fantasizing about straight guys wanting to have sex with them, reality finds.”
More accurate title?
avesraggiana
I would say so. Definitely more accurate.

i have never had any fantasies about straight guys. they had fantasies about me. the only time i was ever hit on in a gay bar was by a married guy on an out of town work project. i’m ashamed to admit i let him pick me up. he was older than me and i made great arm candy. we spent a great weekend together. he got to be gay for once in his life and he kissed. the sex was the least of it. he wanted my company and companionship. we went to lake michigan and walked on the frozen beach hand in hand. we went to a winery and did the taste testing and had pie at a diner. it took him a month away from home to get up the courage to do it. he dropped me off at home sunday and flew back home monday. my only one night stand and his only fling. it was nice.
Greg
That was hot.
CastleSF
Men who are married to a straight woman but engage in anonymous gay sex are the low of the lowest. They are determined to break everyone’s heart and when their time is running out and forced to get a divorce, they then engineer a glorious come-out party to show courageous they are and how their life is finally on the right track. Life is such an irony sometimes.
tricky ricky
when i was much younger and oh so cute and adorable i used to get hit on all the time by guys that were “straight”. i was manly enough, nobody would think i was gay and non threatening. if they wanted a walk on the gay side they hit on me.
i never had a one night stand, they always returned. and they brought their own beer. evidently you’re still straight if you don’t kiss despite the fact you have no gag reflex and quite willing to lift your legs to jesus and praise the lord.
tricky ricky
okay, i had one one night stand.
Greg
I love it.
Greg
It’s called being in the closet. Having sex with men, but believing that you are still heterosexual.
Christopher
I have slept with a couple of straight guys in my 20’s and early 30’s. I think it was mostly to (in my case anyway) was for them to knock something off a bucket list over trying to decide if they are gay, straight or bi.
surreal33
Occasionally getting your dick sucked does not qualify a man as gay. The definition gay is too narrow.
hansniemeijer
Remember Alfred Kinsey in I thought the late 1940’s? In one of his studies he talked about male sex behaviour (including fantasy) not about sexual labels.
