Straight, White, Male, Christian Persecution Complex, anyone?
The Senate is still 100/100 Straight.
The Senate is still 100/100 White.
The Senate is still 83/100 Male.
The Senate is still 100/100 Christian.
Somewhere around the turn of the century, the oppressors somehow got the idea that the minority suddenly became the Man and was putting them down. A perfect example of this is my Stepfather, who never stops talking about how Christians are being “persecuted”.
Yeh, right, try being a Muslim.
Brown Gay Al
you are forgetting burris
and aren’t there 2 latino senators?
Wade MacMorrighan
So, ummmm…why is it that Christians want to impose their will on us, victimizing us, yet…when they have to follow civil/ secular disclosure laws they back away and curl-up into a corner declaring, “Protect us from the homo-fascists!” WTF?! They can dish it, but they can’t take it? Then, they ought not attempt to harm a minority, then, if they can’t accept the consequences! Hell, isn’t that what their religion teaches? Do they need a reminder that their Bible also mandates, “an eye for an eye”? What is wrong with these people? They frakking COWARDS, WITHOUT the courage of their convictions!!! I hope that someone makes a big stink about this in some televised national commercial, portraying Christians as the villains that they REALLY are!
Bruno
Unfortunately, I think they’re going to side with the bigots on this one. They’ve shown every indication of buying into this persecution b.s. It’ll come down to Kennedy’s vote though.
E
This is beyond pathetic! What next, the KKK claiming they’re the victim?! “Boo hoo, make them niggers go away!” Absolutely ridiculous!
Hilarious
@E: Anything for a chance to drop an unrelated N-bomb, right?

Sounds like the gays will win this one. According to one news report of today’s oral argument (I haven’t read the transcript yet), JUSTICE SCALIA said:
“The fact is that running a democracy takes a certain amount of civic courage. And the First Amendment does not protect you from criticism or even nasty phone calls when you exercise your political rights to legislate, or to take part in the legislative process.”
and
“You know, you can’t run a democracy this way, with everybody being afraid of having his political positions known,”
and
“But just because there can be criminal activity doesn’t mean that you have to eliminate a procedure that is otherwise perfectly reasonable.”
So yeah, if Scalia isn’t with the bigots on this one, I don’t see how they win.
