In today’s installment of Ugly Heterosexual Men Having Unwarranted Opinions About the Gay Community, the current star of ABC’s hit reality show The Bachelor tells TV Page that a gay version of the show would be a terrible idea because gay people are “perverted.” Are you shocked?
The idea of a “gay Bachelor” has been a talking point for contestants of this franchise for some time now. When asked if he thought a gay or bisexual version of the show would be a “good idea,” Juan Pablo Galavis said “No… I respect [gay people] but, honestly, I don’t think it’s a good example for kids…”
You know, because one man dating, making out with, and having sex with 20+ women he just met on national television sets a much better example for children.
Galavis—a vision of heterosexuality who wears decorative purple socks and competes in pageants—thinks a gay Bachelor would be “too hard to watch”:

He may be homophobic, but we all know he’s far from ugly. I don’t agree with his reasoning, but I don’t think a gay bachelor would make much sense for ABC either. Maybe Logo but not ABC. The LGBT community is only 4 percent of the country, and even a lot of us wouldn’t be interested in watching it. It just wouldn’t make sense for ABC.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Juan Galavis is bisexual. Most men are bisexual but choose to go down the straight path because they don’t want to engage in what is considered to be sinful activity.
These men also don’t want to fall victim to the “gay trap”, a trap which involves a lifestyle of endless nothings in bars and sex clubs where promiscuity is highly concentrated and life-threatening STD’s are spread.
Juan is typical of MANY men who see “gay” as a form of illness-spreading perversion. It’s a tragic perception but one that is partly brought about by the heavy marketing of promiscuity on the gay male social scene. The gay male social scene must take some of the blame for this perception.

Actually, male homosexuality exists in about 90% of men. There might only be 4% of men who are EXCLUSIVELY oriented to men but the vast majority of men are bisexual in various proportions.

As for Juan, the Bachelor of “color,” he really needs to educate himself. First, learn the definition of hypocrisy. Then, take a look at many gay families that are raising well-adjusted and above normal children in supportive and loving households. And just because his gay friends are, apparently, very promiscuous; that does not mean all gay men are. I think I understood his “pervert” point. His ESL got him in trouble but I believe that he means if straight guys on the Bachelor are expected to juat make out, gays being gays will notch it up with sluttyness and hypersexualization like we love to do in general. Maybe Pablo heard about Folsom Street Fair from his gay associates and feels that they will turn the show into that with gloryholes behind the scenes. Or just look at DaveyWavey type gay “icons” where the sole theme that attracts guys to watch him is constant snarky sex and body worship topics.

People get so confused about homophobia. They say something offensive about LGBT people, then when people pay attention, they trip over themselves saying how much they love and respect all people. But homophobia is the fear of homosexuality. It is not hatred of homosexuality, the way misogyny means “hatred of women.”
