See.. this is the climate there, and why some of us don’t feel all that generous about gay athletes who are still going to the Sochi games… a government like theirs encourages groups like these. And gay athletes who are willing to bring legitimacy and cash to that government ARE part of the problem.

As if he’ll be safer in Africa than Russia? If Swaziland is like other African countries this young man is likely to be arrested, imprisoned, or killed and mutilated now that he has been outed. In the mind of many Africans, this video will simply reinforce their negative view of homosexuals as being weak, submissive and unmanly.

@Kieran: Judging by what the article states, the swazi government seems to be compassionate toward him. So, I don’t think he will be jailed and humiliated by his government.

@ouragannyc: I suspect Swaziland might be more like South Africa in its tolerance towards gays. Occupy Pedophilia? The name says it all.

@Kieran: Because Africa is one single country right? Idiot. Remember that South Africa legalized gay marriage years before it became fashionable. There’s a lot of diversity in that continent, and I wouldn’t be suprized if Swaziland is more tolerant of LGBT than Russia.

Russia is truly disturbing. They are a good example of why we need protections for LGBT people in the US. It is clear that without the law to defend people some people can be monsters.

@Kieran: You must be republican, Africa is not a country, he is from Swaziland which is a country on the continent of Africa. Not all African countries are the same. I can send you a map, you obviously need one.

The fact that these thugs can post something like this online and get away with it is quite disturbing. Why is Russia recognized as more civil than say Iran?

Wishing this poor kid all the best!
