A court in Sweden’s capital sent a HIV-positive male doctor to prison for 10 months for having unprotected sex with two other men. One of the men tested HIV-positive, which initially drew additional charge, but the court ruled it could not conclude the transmission came from the doctor.
Update: More HIV crime fun! Harald Fassanelli, one-half of the gay German Big Brother couple, is being held by police for allegedly biting a half dozen people during Berlin pride while HIV-positive. Fassanelli claims it was in self defense.

The fact that people continue to not pracrice safe sex is disrurbing. People should always get tested regularly for all sexually transmiteed diseases, wear protection, etc.

It’s a 10 month sentence, a misdemeanor, which is a lot shorter than it is in some states within the United States, or Canada for that matter.
I’m not actually sure what such a short prison sentence (in Sweden) is suppose to do besides be an annoyance, but in general these HIV criminalization laws are supposed to discourage HIV positive people from having unprotected and imprisoning those that jeopardized the livelihood of others, whether neglectfully or intentionally.
Especially being a doctor, this poor sap should have known better.

Until this photo, I’d never noticed the resemblance between a condom and a red blood cell.

If you have unprotect sex with someone while knowing that you are HIV positive and not informing your partner, you should be thrown in jail longer than 10 months. This case is particularly disturbing because it was a doctor.

There were two people present and both are responsible for protecting themselves. The law ignores this fact. Lots of men say that they are HIV negative and have online ads like ‘neg 4 neg’ and ‘clean u b 2’ which is a subtext for wanting unprotected sex with other neg guys but when you ask them when they were last tested some say 6 months or longer. Criminalising HIV positive people only discourages others from getting tested and taking control of their sexual health.
