Tangerine star Mya Taylor just became the first transgender person to win a major acting award, and her acceptance speech was every bit as sassy and inspiring as you’d expect it to be:

“There is transgender talent. There’s very beautiful transgender talent. You better get out there and put it in your next movie.”

Taylor beat out Jennifer Jason Leigh and Cynthia Nixon among others to be named Best Supporting Female at the Independent Spirit Awards, a cool indie alternative to the Oscars that’s always held the night before the big show.

Taylor is on a roll, having just signed with ICM partners after her Gotham Award win for Breakthrough Actor, and she’s in development on a semi-autobiographical TV show. She’ll soon be seen in the short film Happy Birthday Marsha as Marsha P. Johnson, one of the trans pioneers responsible for the Stonewall Riots in 1969.

Well done, Ms. Taylor. Watch her acceptance speech below, and if you haven’t seen Tangerine (and you should), it’s now streaming on Netflix.
