NEW MOON IN SCORPIO

Scorpios get a bad wrap. As one of my Scorpio friends said: “We are nice… most of the time.” Scorpios live in the depths. They thrive on intensity. And if you prefer to hang out on the surface of things, Scorpio energy is going to push you.

Scorpio rules over sex and death, rebirth, transformation, psychological blocks, other people’s money and your shadow. This is an energy that loves to dive deep, get obsessed and follow things through to the finish line. That’s what’s available to you, too, in these next few weeks. When you face your darkness you get tough and feeling tough feels good! Scorpio energy will help you embrace your inner badass and in these challenging, turbulent times, that’s exactly what we need. A bunch of LGBTQIA badasses who won’t take no for an answer.

Simply put, this is the time to own your transformation. To put your money where your mouth is. If nothing else, this year so far has shown you EXACTLY where you are in need of an upgrade. But leveling up requires work, so now you have to put those revelations into practice. If you are truly ready to be the new version of yourself that this world so desperately needs, Scorpio season is precisely the time to give birth to this new you.

To become the most empowered version of yourself will require your full acceptance of your shadow. What is your shadow? The easiest way to think about your shadow is to imagine every aspect of yourself that brings you embarrassment or shame. What parts of yourself do you hide from the world? What parts do you even hide from yourself? If we can begin to accept ourselves completely, we will begin to experience our shadow as an ally and not an enemy. Whether or not you acknowledge it, your shadow is always there. If you don’t partner with it, it will unconsciously drive you. So better to make your shadow your BFF than your frenemy.

Perhaps this is why Scorpio Season brings up a lot of dread in folks. The resistance to facing ALL of ourselves is strong. But as Carl Jung said: “Until you make the unconscious conscious, it will direct your life and you will call it fate.” I believe we get to choose our fate. So choose to partner with your shadow. Love the bits of you that bring you shame, shine a light on your weird idiosyncrasies. I truly believe that the aspects of ourselves that we are most terrified of, will deliver us to our bigger, better life, if only we could let them call the shots.

The New Moon in Scorpio is bright and early Wednesday Morning (8:02 AM to be exact) and I want you to make the most of it. I find that the New Moon portal stays open for about 24-48 hours, so if you want to honor it Wednesday or Thursday night (or even during your lunch break), that’s just fine. The invitation with this moon is to begin to build a bridge back to your ancestors. Remember that Scorpio is a water sign, but also a blood sign– blood is thicker than water and Scorpio wants to remind us of our connection to the past.

How can you reconnect with your ancestors? There’s truly no right or wrong way. I know some of you reading these are not particularly Shamanic or even “spiritual” but don’t let that stop you. No matter your religious beliefs, witchy practices or lack thereof, we all have ancestors and we gain power by connecting with them.

The easiest way to honor the ancestors is to create an offering of some sort. Make them a cup of strong black tea and leave it on a table with a lit candle. Pour them a glass wine and leave it outside tonight. You could buy them flowers or bury a crystal in your backyard. The most important thing is that it feels like the right thing to do. If you’re thinking, ‘This sounds nice and all but I really have no idea what to do for my ancestors,’ then just ask them. How? Well, take a few moments and get quiet, take a bath, meditate or right before you go to bed, ask your ancestors what they would like– they might answer you in your dreams. It’s surprising at first but I bet you’ll get a message, maybe even stronger than you ever expected.

There is one other very strong opportunity with this new moon. Remember the new moon is when we cannot see it all. And with Daylight savings time having changed last weekend this is one of the darkest nights of the year. This is your chance to search in the darkness for a key to unlock your heart. Darkness is not bad. We have to remember that the Patriarchy demonizes everything it cannot understand or control. Darkness is in fact most healing. Only in the darkness can we really see the true nature of our own self. When we have the courage to plumb the depths we find the things our hearts have been yearning for. Allow for mystery and intrigue and let the New Moon move you forwards in a major way.

The exciting and aggravating thing with Astrology is that there’s always something happening. But I can’t get into all that here because there just isn’t space or time. So my husband and I encourage you to please tune into The Spiritual Gayz, our twice-monthly podcast dedicated to exploring the wide reaches of spirituality without pretending that it all makes sense. Our aim is to make all this esoteric wisdom as accessible as a Real Housewives reunion because these ancient practices are our birthright and we’ve been disconnected from them for too long! COLLECTIVE CARD FOR THE MOONTH:

Mother of Swords

This card couldn’t be better timed for our current political season. Ironically, there is no violence in her message. This sword represents the sharpness of the mind. For all intents and purposes, the Mother of Swords is the Ruth Bader Ginsburg of the deck. She is a fair and impartial observer, a champion for justice and she sees all. With this card as the harbinger of our monthly message for the collective, I think we are all being encouraged to see things from all angles and not get too caught up in our own personal narratives.

The Mother of Swords knows how to silence the inner critic. She knows how to go into battle against the trickery of the mind. This moonth she is here and she is inviting us not to fall prey to the fake news our own ego likes to serve up. Remember that there are many sides to the same story. And that somewhere in between them all is the truth. The Mother of Swords is a warrior of truth. She will accept nothing less than absolute honesty. And we must all undertake a serious self inquiry and make sure we are not lying to ourselves.

If we are to bring about a new better world it cannot be done through hate. The Mother of Swords cautions us against our anger. Outrage is important and it can activate us in ways that no other emotion can. But we must not get swirled up in the US versus THEM mentality. We must strive to find common ground, we must employ the unending compassion of our hearts. May this fierce archetype inspire us to be impeccable with our own personal integrity. May she challenge us to seek out new ways of coming together. And above all, may she empower you to see the truth and speak the truth. Because when the world spews lies, truth is where our power resides.

SCORPIO

Ace of Pentacles (reversed)

Aces are beginnings, strong, sometimes fated, auspicious beginnings. Pentacles represent our physical reality: our bodies and our bank accounts, our homes and careers. Pulling this card signifies a new beginning that you can see, touch, taste, smell and hear. You are being invited into transformation, powerful Scorpio. But not just the unseen transformation of the heart or spirit. Rather this moonth would like to EMBODY just how changed you are.

Perhaps there’s a new diet or workout regime calling to you, a new haircut or wardrobe that will help you see yourself in a new way. My husband just shaved his head. He looks hot as hell and every time he looks in the mirror it’s a reminder that he is a new version of himself. In a practical, tangible way, new beginnings are afoot for you. Perhaps a career change, a new business where you get to be the boss– maybe even a new home!

The fact that his card came in upside down just means that things are going to move slowly. This isn’t a big bang of change, rather it’s going to be a slow burn. But that won’t make it any less profound. Don’t resist the newness that’s calling to you. Embrace the changes that present themselves to you. I know you Scorpios run deep, but sometimes it’s in the superficial business of being alive where we can cement the new path our soul knows is possible.

SAGITTARIUS

Ace of Cups

The Ace of Cups is a new door into your heart. Your charge last moonth was to regroup in order to find balance. And if you changed up what wasn’t working anymore then consider this card a reward to all your hard work. This is a sweet invitation. Cups rule over our emotions and relationships. So it’s not a stretch of the imagination to assume this card signifies a new relationship is on the horizon. This could absolutely be a romantic relationship. It could also be a new friendship with a like minded brother or sister or finding a community that feels like family.

While the Ace of Cups usually signifies a new relationship, we don’t want to be too rigid in how we perceive that. It could be that you are going to form a new relationship to your art or creativity. Maybe you are feeling your own intuition in a profound way and you’ve decided to start working with your psychic gifts. You might discover a new favorite book series or stumble upon a museum you never noticed before. The Ace of Cups could even be finding a new spa or park that provides deep healing.

Above all the Ace of Cups wants you to open your heart to the world around you. When you allow yourself to be reached, you allow yourself to be expanded. Great art reminds us of who we can be when we surrender to the wisdom of the heart. So take this moonth and let your heart call the shots. Even if you don’t understand where it’s leading you, follow it. Trust it. There are fresh and exciting adventures for you in this next cycle, so jump in and swim in those waters and don’t be afraid to love again.

CAPRICORN

The Chariot

Success is yours, driven Capricorn. This is the card that I most associate with your sign, because it speaks to our ambition and hunger for status and triumph. Nobody is hungrier to achieve than a Capricorn. So this moonth wants to find you doing what you do best: trying to take over the world. The Chariot doesn’t just mean that you are striving for accomplishment, it means you’re already there (or almost there). Prepare for a graduation of sorts, a chance to celebrate your progress. And even if you aren’t where you planned to be at this time, you can still pat yourself on the back for a helluva good effort thus far.

The Chariot is the vehicle for your life. It is the container for your soul. Often times we think of the body as the Chariot because it houses our essence. But you’re a big business Capricorn, which means that you express your soul’s purpose in the boardroom, on Wall Street and in the halls of commerce. The Chariot is a profound reminder to make sure your career is in line with your deeper motivations.

Fame, money, power and prestige can be tremendously satisfying. But they will not fulfill the deeper yearnings of the soul. As you take this moonth and stoke your empire, ensure that you are not missing the forest for the trees. Continue to tune in to the hunger of your bones. Career success is great but it isn’t everything. Expansion in business is valuable, but don’t neglect the expansion of your spirit. And if you can find some way to unite the two of them, then you’d be the most realized Capricorn around!

AQUARIUS

Daughter of Swords (reversed)

Sometimes when a card comes in upside down it isn’t because we are resisting it, but rather because we are addicted to it. That’s what I’m feeling coming though for all us unique Aquarians. I think this moonth is cautioning us against becoming too addicted to our identity. Let me back up a second here. This card, the Daughter of Swords, is the gives no fucks card. The Daughter of Swords says: this is who I am, take it or leave it. And that’s good medicine. I’m not trying to dissuade you from taking it.

However, if we become too attached to our ego’s story of who we are, we will inevitably miss out on some great surprises. We must let our identities be fluid, not rigid. We cannot get locked into the idea of who we are, because the fact is: we are constantly changing. So the challenge this cycle would be to surprise yourself. To give yourself permission to do things you would never do. You can still give no fucks, I promise.

When we crystallize our persona we isolate ourselves from people who are “not like us”. And as the humanitarian of the Zodiac, I know you yearn for a collective. Perhaps there is more value than originally thought in those people you have previously judged to be too unlike you. Perhaps you are missing out on some tremendous relationships, or books or music merely because you haven’t given yourself permission to expand your identity. Take this next cycle and keep challenging your ideas of who you really are. I’m sure ninety percent of your identity will remain unchanged, but how fucking exciting to see what that new ten percent has to reveal to yourself about who you might be becoming.

PISCES

Father of Wands

There is truly no more powerful card than the Father of Wands. He is the Merlin of the deck, dynamic and empowering– a master of energy and will. When I think back on all the messages I’ve had the opportunity to deliver you, wise Pisces, they seem to be attempts at putting you back in the driver’s seat of your life. As a sensitive and hyper-aware human, you are more likely than others to lose yourself in the sea of humanity right outside your doorstep. But this card is a call to return to yourself and remember how powerful you are.

In Shamanism we learn that being a human puts you in a coveted position among beings. As humans we have ownership of a body and that gives you free will. When you have free will you are truly unstoppable. The only thing that can unravel your efforts is you. So this month is about reclaiming your power from where you may have abandoned it. You are the Father of Wands, no matter your gender or your station. In you, gentle Pisces, is the ability to move tremendous amounts of energy and bring forth an empire from the invisible.

A useful meditation for you this moonth might be to visualize your energy returning to you. As you inhale, see, sense or feel any pieces of yourself that you have lost coming back into you. As you exhale, see, sense or feel any energy that doesn’t belong to you or serve you leaving your body. Even if you were to do this for just three minutes a day this Scorpio Season, I think you would begin to feel much more agency in your life. Remember, when you are power filled and purpose driven, it makes the world around you a better place. The Father of Wands isn’t just in it for themself– they know how to ignite others as well. So as you move forth on your path this moonth, don’t be afraid to empower others as you continue to stoke your own fire of brilliance and ambition.

ARIES

The Hierophant

A close up of a book

So, what the fuck is a Hierophant, right? Ok, follow me here. This comes from the Greek word: Heirophantos. And they were the priests that facilitated the sacred initiation rights to the ancient Elusian mystery schools. They were the gatekeepers to realms of intrigue and power. And now, with the appearance of this card, you are being invited to cross the threshold of the known into the unknown.

With Hierophant energy around you there is a potential for deeper learning. Trust that the right books are appearing before you, the right teachers showing up at the right time. If a workshop is calling to you, a class or even a podcast, don’t hesitate to expand your mind. In a more superficial interpretation, this could be literally going back to school or getting your Yoga teacher training or getting your real estate license. But the essence of this card is to engage with tradition in order to transcend it. For example, you learn how to read Tarot, not just for the messages the cards deliver but because in the act of learning this ancient practice you begin to develop your intuitive gifts. The outer form allows for inner wisdom to emerge.

This is a month for discovery and research, maybe you’ve got a creative project waiting in the wings but you need to develop it more thoroughly. Learn. Explore. Ask. Don’t hesitate (as if an Aries ever hesitates) to make yourself available to new information and soak it in like the sponge you are. At the end of the day, what you are learning right now is not just for your own personal storehouse of knowledge but to be shared. You will be asked to step into the role of Teacher soon, so stock up on teachings like you would stock up on bathing suits before a summer in Mykonos. And above all, have fun with it. If you aren’t passionate about what you are learning then let that shit go. Now is the time to empower yourself with truth and complexity and trust that your own sacred rites have just begun.

TAURUS

Ace of Swords

This is going to be a big moonth for you, gorgeous Taurus. You’ve been in the tunnel of transformation for some time now. You’ve been shedding your old skin and preparing for your new life to begin. Well, guess what gurl, it’s here. The Ace of Swords is here to initiate a brand new story for your life. And since you are the author of this story, I would suggest you make it a story you like, one that brings you joy and satisfaction. The past no longer has any hold on you. You are free. So please stop telling yourself this old, outdated, sob story about who you are and what you are doing in the world. A story for your life, or a headline, is how you can simplify and identify your purpose. Instead of telling yourself that you will never find love, be healed, earn success or get noticed– tell yourself that you are a magnet for money. You are a magnet for fulfilling romantic partnership. You are a magnet for hot sex and expensive vacations. Yeah, now I’ve got your attention.

Swords rule our mental realm. They allude to all the voices in our heads (compassionate and otherwise) and the thoughts they spew at us. How we use these swords (or thoughts) are the key to our success. Is the sword pointed outwards, clearing your path ahead? Or have you turned your sword inwards? Are you skewering yourself with your own negative mental gymnastics? Take this month and perch yourself on one good sword. Tell yourself one huge story for your life and see where it leads you.

Changing old thought patterns isn’t easy, but it can be done. And the emergence of this card would suggest that you are ready! No more excuses and no more waiting around for someone else to change your life for you. You are going to have to be the agent of your own metamorphosis. But the good news is you won’t have to share any of the credit when all your wildest dreams have come true. This moonth, be vigilant in observing your mental landscape and when the old stories appear, throw them out with the trash.

GEMINI

The Lovers (reversed)

If we think about the Major Arcana as charting our major life experiences, The Lovers is puberty or at least adolescence. This is the period of our maturation where we separate from our parents, when we begin to embrace our individuality. We choose what we like to do, who we find attractive and how we want to be identified. No matter your sexuality, this is when everyone first comes out as who they truly are. Scorpio Season is inviting you to really choose your next steps with authenticity. You don’t have to live out your parents dreams or your grandparents dreams. You don’t even have you follow through on plans you’ve already set into motion. You are free to follow your heart and your true nature.

The Lovers present us with duality. Do I go out and party or stay in and write? Should I stay at this job I hate or jump into the unknown? Ironically, this is the the card that represents you, Gemini. The Lovers is the Gemini card. It asks us to explore both sides of our being, our sparkling darkness and manic light. Can you take this moonth and lean into your edges? Can you embrace the parts of your psyche and soul that don’t often get to stand in the spotlight?

The Lovers can obviously also be about a lover (so if that’s happening in your world, enjoy and please engage fully) but above all it is about choosing with love. This means your career, your daily routine, even the food you eat need to be approved by your heart. You get to call the shots; it’s your life after all. So don’t allow someone else to lord power over you. You’re a grown up and a gorgeous one at that and this card wants to empower you to pick your path forwards. The truth is we don’t live in a dualistic universe, we live in the multiverse where literally ANYTHING is possible. It doesn’t have to be this or that, it can be both. Or if it seems like life is only presenting you two positions, take a moment and ask for a third. There is always another way, you just have to be clever and creative. And isn’t that EXACTLY what Geminis are known for?

CANCER

Seven of Cups (reversed)

Sevens in the Tarot, as far as I’m concerned, ask us to approach from a spiritual perspective. Seven of Cups is a spiritual approach towards relationships, creativity, emotion and intuition. Essentially, you are being presented with lots of choices right now. With whom should you be spending your time? With whom should you be sharing your heart? And the answer isn’t an intellectual one. You have to feel your way along. And as a fellow water sign, Scorpio Season should have you deep in your feels, but most likely, in a good way.

Do you know what an energy vampire is? It’s just a person who doesn’t know how to generate or manage their own energy, so they consciously or unconsciously leech it from others. Sometimes (most of the time) energy vampires are quite attractive, charming and manipulative. Sometimes they’re easy to see from the get go but not always. The best way to tell if someone in your life is an energy vampire or not is to pay attention to how you feel immediately after spending time in their presence. For example, when I get off the phone with my grandma I almost always feel drained. I love her, she’s amazing and she’s a good person– but she’s also an energy vampire.

Your heart is your most prized possession. This moonth wants you to be quite selective in who gets access to it. The fact that this card came is upside down might speak to your tendency to put others needs ahead of your own. I know you like taking care of other people but you also deserve to have others take care of you, too. And if you don’t set up some boundaries ASAP, you will keep enabling your friends, lovers and co-workers to suck your energy reservoir dry. Choose from your heart this cycle, sweet Cancer. Choose to spend time with those who pour into your cup. Choose to commit to projects that feel spiritually in alignment with your own purpose. And lovingly and compassionately limit your time with those people, places and opportunities that feel like a drain.

LEO

Mother of Cups

Welcome to the depths of mystery, charming Leo. Scorpio Season may be hitting you hardest of all. Don’t be scared, get excited. Mother of Cups is here to usher you into the deep water of your own transformation. When we are presented with this wise and watery figure it speaks to a period of time where something profound in us is shifting. It’s a time that defies language or categorization. Simply put, you just have to take the ride. Other people are going to say to you: You seem different, what’s going on? And you won’t be able to reply. Even inside your own head you might struggle to comprehend this metamorphosis occuring in the marrow of your bones. And I’m here to tell you, that’s totally ok.

The Mother of Cups is the most mysterious and psychic card in the deck. She is quite comfortable hanging out on the Ocean floor. Even though your natural instinct, as a fire sign, is full steam ahead– this moonth is challenging you to release your need to know what’s next. Let this whole season wash over you. Marinate in it. Let yourself daydream. Allow hidden messages to reach you. For example, you might wake up one morning and think: I need to call so and so today. You don’t know why. But if you trust your intuition and call them, you’ll soon recognize why it was necessary to reach out. That is the sort of moonth you’re going to have, awash in synchronicities and intrigue.

You shine bright, Leo. There’s no denying that. But someone with a light as bright as yours must have an equal amount of darkness. And that darkness needs tending, too. The Mother of Cups is someone who can embody their light and dark. It will be in your best interest to seek out the shadowy aspects of your being and spend some time there. Seek out the hidden corners of your community and learn how to be excited by the dark, instead of afraid of it. The more you can release your need to know the better. Let yourself go on a shadow safari this moonth and revel in the magic that only the darkness can provide.

VIRGO

Six of Pentacles

Blooming. That’s what this card has to say. Life is blooming all around you. Your career, your creativity and even your bank account are going to get a little boost. Hell, even your skin looks great! Seriously, that is the message of the Six of Pentacles. Things are starting to expand in your physical reality. The seeds you planted early this year or even earlier this lifetime are beginning to sprout up. And now you can see that, YES, all your hard work is starting to pay off.

Now, just because you might be harvesting the benefits of your labor doesn’t mean the work is over. You must to continue to tend your investments if you want them to keep maturing. But the truth is there is cause for much celebration this moonth. You can pat yourself on the back and even treat yourself to some lavish rewards, so long as that doesn’t slow your momentum.

When we start on a new path we are putting a down payment on our future. Well the future has arrived. Maybe you began a new exercise regimen this year and you’re finally beginning to feel healthy and strong. Perhaps you started a new business this year and are starting to cash some serious checks, hunty. Or could it be you came out of the closet this year, as gay, spiritual, or whatever and now are starting to feel at home in your new identity and your community. Look around your world this moonth and realize what is blooming. Take it in. Thank it. And realize that you are blooming, too.

LIBRA

Two of Cups

People are always asking me about love. They come to get their cards read and they want to know about relationships. Where is my soulmate? When am I finally gonna meet my man or my woman? How can I call in a romantic partner that is spiritually and financially robust? If this card shows up, the Two of Cups, I can confidently say that love is just around the corner. That’s because this card signifies new relationships. Two cups pouring into each other and filling the other up without depleting their own reserves.

We’ve all been in relationships that have been uneven, where you do all the tending and taking care or perhaps let the other person take care of you. The Two of Cups is a balanced partnership. A meeting of equals. That’s what this moonth has in store for you. This could be romantic, absolutely. But it also might be a creative partnership. Look around and notice who the universe is serving up as a perfect companion for your life so far. Sometimes the hardest things to see are right in front of us. So take off your blindfold, wake up and see what sort of love is waiting to be invited in.

The other message this card has to deliver is all about partnering with yourself. Because at the end of the day, relationships are a mirror. If you haven’t gotten serious about being a tender and compassionate partner to yourself, you may continue to attract lovers that can’t really meet your needs. My humble advice is to take this moonth and really ensure that you are showing up for yourself. You have an inner child and an inner empress. They need to be in healthy communication with each other or else you will be out of balance. And the key to this next chapter is finding the balance within yourself. THAT is what will deliver you your next balanced relationship. And let’s be real, to a Libra, that’s the most important thing. But it always starts within. Allow Scorpio Season reveal where maybe you’ve been letting yourself down and if you can right those wrongs with yourself, your outer world will make amends to you as well.
