A father in the town of Nixon, Texas (about one hour southeast of San Antonio) claims a teacher at Nixon-Smiley High School told an entire classroom full of students that his son is gay and only dating his girlfriend “as a cover.”
The father, who hasn’t been named by local news, says that the teacher admitted saying it and assumed his son was gay because of “the way he looks.” Her comment resulted in his son becoming a target for bullies, the father says.
The dad has reportedly filed a complaint with the district and is looking into legal options. He has met with the school principal and the accused teacher and will soon meet with the district superintendent. The district says they’ve launched an investigation. And though the teacher has apologized, the father wants her fired.
He claims his son isn’t gay, but adds, “Gay or straight is not the problem here. The problem is the teacher making a comment causing bullying in a school.”
How about we take this to the next level?
Our newsletter is like a refreshing cocktail (or mocktail) of LGBTQ+ entertainment and pop culture, served up with a side of eye-candy.
He shared his story with the local NBC News affiliate so that it wouldn’t get “swept under the rug,” adding that he distrusts the district to take appropriate action because of the area’s “small town politics.” The town of Nixon only has about 2,500 residents.
Anti-gay bullying remains a problem in U.S. schools, though we often don’t think of it coming from teachers.
According to an HRC survey of over 10,000 LGBT people ages 13 to 17 across America, 92% say they hear negative messages about being LGBT, mostly from school, the internet and peers. The same survey revealed that LGBT students were twice as likely to physically assaulted at school than their straight peers.
On the bright side though, about 90% of LGBT youth say they’re out to their close friends and 64% are out to their classmates with 75% reporting that most of their peers don’t have any problem with their sexuality.

Lets not rule out that this student might have been an obnoxious little b-tard who was asking for such a put down.

We need an anti-troll spray, and/or we could start a conversion therapy program for them. Let’s not rule out that the Bob LaBlah might have been an obnoxious little b-tard who was asking for such a put down. Have a gr8 day Blob aBlah.

Let’s not rule out the fact that you are a homophobic idiot! Why the f*** would he make it up troll?

Mr. LaBlah, go to effing hades. No one deserves to be treated like that, no one. If he was being obnoxious, there are more appropriate means of punishment. You need to have you brain examined. I wouldn’t wish that on your child, or the child of a relative of yours. Though I’m sure then you would be screaming for justice. Animal.

The truth hurts, doesn’t it?

What a shock. Bob LaBlah blames a victim for their victimization. Next, you’ll tell me that the sun rises in the East, and that dogs return to their own sick.

This is based on one father’s claim who hasn’t been publicly named? This sounds fishy.
Juanjo
Actually, if you bothered to watch the video clip, he has met with the school district, school administration, and the teacher. He also met with the television station. He has asked them not to identify him on television to prevent further harassment. But thanks for blaming the victim’s family.
chainmale
And, yet, the teacher apologized.
Scout
Juanjo, “Actually, if you bothered to watch the video clip”…. There is none on my screen.

Why is it fishy? The goal is to protect the student, publicly naming the father makes the dots pretty freaking easy to connect.

In California, this teacher could lose he teaching credential. If he was gay with a cover girlfriend and she had outed him, she would be in violation of rules regarding confidential information about students. However, because she blurted our an assumption which amounted to bullying, she would be in violation of rules regarding bullying of students.
If I was the father of this student, I’d contact the Texas Department of Education to see if she violated any rules which might lead to a revocation of her Credential.

I’m glad this kid has a father who supports him and is willing to go to bat against the school district.
Mick406
Maybe the kid was a little shyt or not, but a teacher should never EVER humiliate a student inside the classroom in front of all the other kids. For some reason, young kids take that as a sign to ‘pile on’ and begin hissing.
When I was in the 3rd grade, I had a teacher to tell the whole classroom that I was the only one whose parents asked to charge my lunches until they could afford to pay for them. She told the class my family wasn’t doing their fair share while all the rest were. While I was infuriated with her remark, I didn’t expect what would happen next.
The entire class of about 30 kids all started yelling at me. Even some boys getting out of their desks and coming up and whacking me on the back of the head, shoving me, and they all yelled, “Cheater! Scum! Your family is POOR! Ha. Ha!!!” There is something pathological in how kids jump on this kind of train. Even a couple of my very best friends jumped in too. It was like the teacher cut a wound open and they all smelled blood. I’ll never forget it as long as I live.
It was the first time at a tender age that I started contemplating how the human brain worked. It was alarming to see how an authority figure could induce a mob scene and normally good people picked up pitch forks and torches. Humans . . . . we are a weird lot!!!
Kangol
Fire the homophobic teacher. She doesn’t belong anywhere near a school if this is how she’s treating kids, whatever their sexual orientation. An apology shouldn’t cut it. Out on her hateful *ss should.

The Russian trolls are on fire here. We’ve got your number you silly little dumbasses.
Brian
Good lord, someone is still stuck on the Russian troll thing? You really think people here aren’t capable of being jerks on their own?

When I lived in the US, during my PhD program, I was helping a teacher administer exams, and when he handed the exam to a boy that was clearly gay, he said, “PINK FOR YOU, MATT!”, referring to the color of the exam -and obviously to the boy’s sexuality. I was angry as hell but kept quiet. I regret that I did nothing to prevent this veiled bullying.

i’d like to hear the teacher’s side of the story
