Before Will & Grace mainstreamed gay professionals, before Sex & the City defined gays as this season’s must-have accessory, and the United States of Tara showcased a gay teen with a (lacking) sex life, there is was: What’s billed as the first-ever kiss between two men on network television. One year later, Jack and Will would finally get around to smooching — in much the same way Brian Patrick Thornton describes his Today show snog with then-boyfriend Rich. It’s a beautiful read. And a lovely kiss.

Back in 1994 the BBC kids’ TV series Byker Grove ran a storyline about coming out that included a gay kiss between two teenage boys, both of whom were under 16; at the time the legal age of consent for gay sex was 18.

but what was the legal age of kiss-ent at the time?

I think this kiss was great. If there’s anything conservatives and liberals fear about male homosexuality, it’s the male-male kiss. They’re terrified of it.
Importantly, they’re scared of us men kissing each other in the mainstream. If we’re doing it in our gay bars and privated residences, they begrudge us the right, but only just.

@tavdy79:
There was a gay kiss on Brookside well before then. And I think there was a more high-profile gay kiss on EastEnders before then as well, wasn’t there?

That was cute, and HAHAHA!!! on the guy to the right of the screen making a face! Now if they had been a couple of hot lesbians I don’t think that would’ve been a reaction–less he was an anti-gay god fearing man.

Wasn’t there an episode of Will & Grace where Jack and Will kissed outside of the Today Show?
Brandon
Aww I’ve never seen that video before! Sooo sweet. I wanna do that with my boyfriend on LIVE TV one day. lol

If it had been “two hot lesbians”, Hugh Hefner and his liberal retards would be saying how wonderful it is.
