The 5 Best Reunions Of The Past Year

Last night during the MTV Video Music Awards, Justin Timberlake brought his boys back up on stage for a ‘N SYNC’s first public performance in nearly a decade. Earlier that night, Danity Kane announced they were officially getting back together (sans D. Woods) and headed back to the studio. Lump this on top of the 98 Degrees/Boyz II Men/New Kids On The Block tour and you have a ’90s resurgence happening. In the past year, at least five major pop groups reunited, if only for a night, to take fans down memory lane.

5. New Kids On The Block

The group has partnered with 98 Degrees and Boyz II Men for a comeback summer tour that is chock full of old hits, memories of first kisses and awkward school dances. NKOTB showed they still have the stuff during a special medley performance on the Today show. And if that wasn’t enough to make you fall back in love with them, Donnie Wahlberg has been making Wednesdays the best day to get on Twitter.

4. Backstreet Boys

In 2011, the boys of Backstreet got back together to hit the road with NKOTB. However, it wasn’t quite the same without Kevin Richardson. But earlier last year, the group announced that he and the entire line up were getting back together again. Over the summer, the group embarked on world tour to celebrate their 20th(!) anniversary, which also included promotional stops on Good Morning America and the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

3. Destiny’s Child

If there’s one thing Beyonce knows how to do, it’s creating a media frenzy. Ahead of the Super Bowl, it was rumored that the girls would be reuniting on stage with the singer. And that’s all it took to get people gathered around the TV following a sub-par first half of a football game. The ladies came shooting out of the ground and blasted into a medley of hits that showcased why these three were the best three of Destiny’s Child. Although Michelle Williams stumbled her way through “Single Ladies,” it was fun watching them have a good time on stage together.

2. N’SYNC

Did you catch all 110 seconds of the N’SYNC reunion? Painfully short, the performance at the VMAs at least included all the members and several of their hits. Thankfully, the guys looked pretty good (Chris even looked more put together than his final days in the group) and everyone put a lot of energy into the shortest reunion ever. It’s unlikely they will ever do something like this again but it was well worth it.

1. Spice Girls

In August of last year, the Spice Girls inadvertently kicked off a year of nostalgia by reuniting during the closing ceremonies of the 2012 Summer Olympics. There performance mashed up several of fans’ favorite jams, saw the girls riding taxis around the stadium, and Posh Spice glaring into the camera. Despite Posh’s scowl, everyone looked like they were having a good time – prompting talks of a reunion tour. But honestly, it was just so much fun fan girling and singing along to every song.
