What does a Catholic upbringing, dysfunctional family, eating disorders and divorce all have in common?
If you answered “fodder for a new sitcom” you deserve a job in the writers’ room on ABC’s upcoming The Real O’Neals.
The Dan Savage-produced show is based (at least in part) on Savage’s upbringing, and judging by this trailer, we can expect lots of gay coming-of-age jokes and sexual fumblings. Fun!
And hey look, it’s Max Emerson.

ewwwwwww Dan Savage? Seriously this is going to fail, and I’m sure he’ll add in lots of r@cism, biphobia, transphobia, and have mainly only white people in it.

Looks funny to me, I will have to see the first episode. I just hope that they show this guy finding relationships/friendships with regular looking guys as well hot ones.
Glücklich
Just what I want to see: the “sexual fumblings” of any awkward teenager, gay or straight. Won’t last more than a season.
Bette Fiord
Clark35 are you Mark Mom Finley? Your jealousy towards Dan Savage is legendary- The old drag Mummy must be choking on her dentures and spewing black bile right about now!… lol!

It actually looks pretty funny, and I don’t generally like sitcoms at all.

@Clark35: My thoughts exactly.
Kick Emerson
Thanks for the love

@Clark35: such an original comment. did you force your neurons to fire in some predetermined sequence to come up with this thought?
Clark35
@Bette Fiord: Nope. Just being real about the bigot Savage that’s all.
Tony Holewinski
This looks incredible!!!

It looks funny and I will ‘probably’ watch it, though to be honest, I am completely over and done with coming out coming of age tales.
Chris Michael Stewart
This looks so friggin cute! Can’t wait to watch!!

@Clark35:
Basically.

This looks very funny. I would watch it… if I had a television.

I love Dan Savage and had high hopes for this show, but it seems interchangeable with just about every other grunting forced sitcom. “Homo in the Middle,” “My So-Called Homo,” “Homo Improvement,” “The Homo Years,” on and on and on and on. So sad, the premise held so much promise. The trailer killed that.
Wooly
How original. The three gay plot lines. Coming out, gay bashing and gay suicide. Its all been done to death. Why can’t we have gay characters where their “sexuality” is not the focus.
martinbakman
The whole family is bent. That’s new.
spiffy
I will watch it just for Martha Plimpton.
