“Prosecutors have filed hate crime charges against an 18-year-old Seattle man accused of accosting another man on a Metro bus while yelling anti-gay slurs. Abiazzizi I. Idris has been charged with second-degree attempted robbery and malicious harassment, the state’s hate crime statute, in the March 10 attack.
“In court documents, police claim Idris was riding on a Metro coach near the 9000 block of Rainier Avenue South when he slapped the man in the back of the head. He then allegedly asked, using a slur, if he was homosexual. The man disembarked the bus moments later, followed by Idris and an associate. Police say Idris again approached him, telling the man that homosexuality violates his religion. Confronted by Idris, the man again said he was not gay. Idris then, police assert, “grabbed the victim around his neck and said ‘Give me $10 and your cell phone and I’ll let you go.'”

I live in Seattle and I heard about this, it is an embarassment first of all to a city that supposedly prides itself on its “progressive” attitude toward minorities. The particular neighborhood in which this occured is very heavily African-American along with the usual gang of druggies, drunks and general lowlifes. The bus driver did nothing to stop the guy either(which is typical of Seattle bus drivers). To get an assault classified as a hate crime in this city takes an act of God & 3 of Congress just to get the police to consider it a hate crime. Forget the Civil Rights office they are no help either.
At least the guy wasn’t physically harmed and all he lost was his phone & $10 which sucks as it is.

Recent storm in england over a muslim preacher who has called for gays to be killed – also for this man Homoxuality is against his religion.
No mention of this item of news on Queerty, of course! I would suggest for three reasons
1) respect for sky pixie religions (even though these sky pixie religions have NO respect for us)
2) Political correctness – ie out of respect for the old notion of the rainbow coalition, which over in Europe is long dead thanks to the muslims constantly attacking gays.
3) American lack of interest in the rest of the world (except for a token interest with token items of news shown)

Hate preacher Anjem Choudary launched a vitrolic attack on gays last week in which he said that they should be stoned to death.
The former lawyer, who lives on benefits, added that this would include gay business secretary Lord Peter Mandelson, who, under Sharia law, would first be educated about the “evils” of homosexuality then executed if he confessed to a same-sex relationship.
He was speaking at a press conference in London organised by Islamic extremists to justify a protest in Luton last week against soldiers returning home from Iraq.
Choudary said: “If a man likes another man, it can happen, but if you go on to fulfil your desire, if it is proved, then there is a punishment to follow. You don’t stone to death unless there are four eyewitnesses. It is a very stringent procedure.
“There are some people who are attracted to donkeys but that does not mean it is right.”
Conservative MP Patrick Mercer told the Daily Mail: “These statements show the depravity of this man’s beliefs. They must incite hatred and encourage terrorism, and I would encourage the Metropolitan Police to investigate them as rigorously as possible.”
A Scotland Yard spokesman said police would investigate Choudary’s remarks if a complaint was made.
Choudary has previously called for Sharia law to be implemented in the UK.
Last week, he called for all British women to be forced to wear burkhas, saying: ““Every woman, whether Muslim or non-Muslim, would have to wear a traditional burkha and cover everything apart from her face and hands in public.
“In matters to do with the judicial system and the penal code, one male witness is sufficient to counter the testimony of two females. People who commit adultery would be stoned to death.”

We often hear about the Islamists in the UK, but what we here in the US often don’t hear is how miserable it is to be a non-white citizen of Britain.
When my partner and I were in Oxford, he was yelled at from some asshole in a moving car and called “dirty Muslim” or something to that extent.
My partner is not a Muslim. He is part Welsh, part Greek, and part Portuguese and does not subscribe to any organized religion. That day, he happened to have a full beard and was wearing a skullcap. He wears the cap because it fits his head and keeps his hair down, not because he’s religious.
I worry about him more that he looks Muslim (or Jewish!) than I do that he’s gay. What does that tell you about who’s feeling the brunt of bigotry in Britain or the US?

I mean possibly this man, the preacher Anjem Choudary was so outraged at british gay racism on his last visit to a gay club near where he lives, so he comes out and condemns gays in general.

@kevin (not that one): Whereas I sympathize with you & your partners plight, the same holds true in this country, not that all persons of Middle Eastern descent are Muslim or terrorists, they have done nothing to dipel the stereotype, they come to this country(U S)get all the breaks in the world then what do they do to say thank you…they try to FORCE their beliefs onto society, this is not Tehran, Baghdad or even Tel-Aviv, if you want your religious “law” imposed then I suggest you move to one of those countries where it is enforced, then maybe you’ll finally be happy.
Again please understand this is NOT directed at you or your partner. It is just that when foreign nationals come here they think that they have the right to impose their beliefs onto everyone and those who do not agree with them are heretics, demons, aberrations of society. We are ALL human beings regardless of what religion or other form of worship of whatever deity or whatever you CHOOSE to believe in.
