On The Good Wife, Kalinda (played by the absolutely stunning Archie Panjabi) is definitely not straight, but writers aren’t yet telling viewers whether she’s bi or a lesbian. On Tuesday’s episode we learned, after 29 shows, Kalinda’s ex is a lady (Lili Taylor’s Donna). “Had Kalinda’s sexuality been directly addressed right away, she might have been less intriguing,” writes TV Guide‘s Kate Stanhope. “By revealing things slowly, her sexuality has become one of many interesting questions about her.” So that’s sort of interesting. Next, a character’s mixed race will become a season-ending cliff hanger!

Love this show so much – and the wonderful (and British) Archie is one of the main reasons I love the show – Kalinda is a great character
I felt that Alicia’s gay brother was a bit tagged on however

I don’t appreciate the sarcasm Calinda’s been a great character and part of it is her being so cagey. She digs up dirt on everything but hardly anyone knows her. I think the show’s refusal to label her is fascinating and is one of the first characters I can think of that shows the often fluid notion of sexuality. And they showed a hot lesbian kiss this week. So why are we complaining?

@Marcus you do realize this is an LGBT site correct? Gay men won’t fall over themselves at the sight of two women kissing.

Two women together is a straight male-pleasing scenario. Its acceptance is hardly indicative of gay rights acceptance. The men who are pleased by girl-girl action are likely to be boorish men who think that two men kissing is gross. These are the type of men who tick the “no” box on issues like gay marriage at the ballot box.
The only scenario in which two women together is not a straight male-pleasing scenario is if the women have butch hair-cuts and dress in a non-provocative fashion. That’s because their appearance does not align with the preferences of sleazy straight guys.

I’m sorry, so you’re saying a lesbian leaning character kissing another woman on TV isn’t progress just because some men might find it appealing? How are lesbians supposed to advance on TV if you just take away their moment by chalking it up to male desire? That really doesn’t seem fair at all. I know plenty of women that like men kissing, but I guess that doesn’t count. We’re learning about Calinda’s sexuality slowly but we do know it isn’t just a gimmick like Marissa on The O.C.
Seems pretty anti-women to take all the power away from a lesbian kiss by defining it through the male gaze.

Keep in mind, this show’s target audience is women. So the lesbian kiss isn’t an easy act of exploitation for the “male gaze”.
