The Homophobic Tweets Of A U.S. Senator’s Son

How far does the fruit fall from the tree? That’s a scary question to consider when it comes to Sen. Jeff Flake (R.-AZ) and his son Tanner. As it turns out, Tanner has been using his Twitter account to plaster slurs across the internet, including homophobic, racist and anti-Semitic comments, proving he is an equal opportunity jerk.

“I’m done to own some faggots,” reads one of Tanner’s tweets.Another reads, “To the faggot who stole my dirt bike from the church parking lot, I will find you, and I will beat the crap out of you.” Clearly, any lessons of charity Tanner may have learned in church didn’t make it out the front doors.

The Flake family is not gay-free (whose is?). A cousin, Kent Flake was in a long-term relationship with Matt Salmon Jr., himself the son of a conservative U.S. Representative for Arizona.

“I’m very disappointed in my teenage son’s words, and I sincerely apologize for the insensitivity. This language is unacceptable, anywhere. Needless to say, I’ve already spoken with him about this, he has apologized, and I apologize as well,” Sen. Flake said in a statement to BuzzFeed, which broke the story. With any luck, Tanner has been grounded. Until he’s about 40.
