“Faggot!” “Ass pirate!” “Gay fucker!” These are just some of the exciting words used by audience members on José Luis Sin Censura, the Spanish-language American-airing Jerry Springer-esque program that aired the segment unedited. I don’t even know what’s going on during this show, but I’m pretty sure this program needs a bald Steve-like security guard for the “fucking faggots” to admire.

I think the problem here is that there wasn’t a Spanish Language Phil Donahue who could lay the groundwork of compassionate progressive talk show topics to help Latin culture get past their initial feelings of hostility towards Gays, then a middle of the road mildly sensational period hosted by a Spanish Language Sally Jesse Raphael and then finally, with some degree of compassion instilled in audiences, they could move on to this kind of exploitation of the basest parts of their culture. Spanish Language television just jumped right in with the Jerry Springer model, and Latin culture hasn’t done any of the work necessary to move past it’s homophobia and realize this kind of outburst should be completely embarrassing.
More seriously, it also points to how little I think we can look to the Latino community as allies in our own struggles. We have a lot of work to do if we are going to get other minority communities to a place where we can all work together towards equality. That is the most naked expression of ugliness and hatred I have ever seen on television. It reminds of me of scenes from films about Roman gladiatorial games. scary.

Audience member to the lesbian guest: “If I grab you, I’ll turn you into a woman.” Woah! Disgusting! This whole video just made my skin crawl.
Fer
It makes me ashamed of being a latino.

I speechless. I cannot believe this would not get censored! The words they are using are completely unacceptable. I would really like to know who edited this episode and what was going through their minds when they let this air. It sounds a lot worse when you speak Spanish fluently and you hear this, its almost surreal.

It’s all in the name: ‘Sin Censura!” [ie ‘Uncensored’]

I think what makes this worse is that they actually pay people to be guests on the show (A friend of my mother told her she was paid to be on it). I wonder how much they have to pay to make people think it is okay to be subjected to this kind of trash. It’s disheartening to hear your people speak in such hateful ways.
It makes me want to backhand each one of them and tell them to go ef themselves for being so stupid.

@sfsilver:
Yes because a couple of bigoted latinos on a Jerry Springer type show account for ALL of Latino/a culture in the US.
Thank you, white savior. /eyeroll

I agree with sfsilver, I’ve noticed in the Spanish-speaking media so much bigotry against gays, blacks, and women in the last few years. That Fox news business model seems to be working for them as well.
I love the “counter the white supremacy” pseudo intellectual memes that the defenses for this behavior tend to be comprised of. When did being a racial minority come to equal being an outspoken thug knuckle dragger on a par with the like of Archie Bunker anyway? What are you looking out? What did you say about my mother pendejo? It’s so damn tired already…

I LOVE this show!

It’s just Jerry Springer… in Spanish.
Yes, the censors need to speak better Spanish, but don’t forget this style of program is an American Import. It’s designed to appeal to, and does appeal to, a particular type of person.
Don Francisco has been a larger voice for Latinos for decades & is much more mindful of broader society while satisfying his demographic.
Things are changing… I can remember as recently as 2 yrs ago hearing ‘maricon’ (faggot) on the radio, but no more.

I just saw a bit of this program. Spanish ;language television has sunk to a new low.
