Protect and serve? Or hold captive and rape? Craig Nash, a 39-year-old now-former Texas police officer, plead guilty to raping a transexual prostitute. While on duty. The female victim, who’s currently serving time in a male prison, was picked up by Nash last February, put in the back of his patrol car, and taken to an unknown location where she was forced to engage in sex acts with Nash. DNA, as well as GPS tracking and the victim’s identification of Nash in a line-up, clearly fingered him as the perp. (While Nash’s attorneys insist the sex was consensual, it doesn’t matter if you’re a cop; having sex with anybody in custody is a felony.) So how did the ex-cop do at trial? Pretty great: In a deal worked out with prosecutors, he plead guilty only to a misdemeanor “oppression” charge, agreeing never to work as a law enforcement officer in the state again. What’s more, after a second victim came forward and identified Nash as her 2008 rapist, prosecutors agreed not to pursue additional charges as part of the plea deal. It’s unclear from this news report how the victim feels about Nash’s sentencing, but let’s just say a one-year prison sentence for two rapes is, uh, bullshit.

ewe
This “not working in the state” again has a lot of corrupt crooked cops crossing state lines daily. DISGRACEFUL.

1 yr. That’s terrible. The injustice. This dude needs to be raped in prison. I’m sorry. Eye for an eye. He’ll never understand the hurt he causes unless he goes thru it. And even then, I’m not sure how much he’ll learn.

why is it important that the person is Trans???
and why is the Trans person in jail???
seems like the trans person was not a reliable witness… If they were on the stand, the defense would have torn them to bits
and yes… the cop is slime
the crustybastard
States really should appoint special prosecutors in criminal trials where law enforcement officers are defendants.
State district attorney/prosecutor’s offices are, by necessity, extremely cozy with law enforcement departments, given that those departments provide the majority of the prosecution’s evidence and LEOs are very often witnesses for the prosecution in state criminal trials.
DAs cannot aggressively prosecute LEOs because they require ongoing cooperation from law enforcement departments and individual LEOs.
Failing to aggressively prosecute LEOs is a violation of state prosecutor’s obligation of zealousness to the people. Hence, special prosecutors should be appointed from the the criminal law bar; that is, criminal defense attorneys.

@JAW:
Did you read the story? It sounds like they had plenty of evidence even if the victim’s reliability was compromised, especially on the DNA rap:
“put in the back of his patrol car, and taken to an unknown location where she was forced to engage in sex acts with Nash. DNA, as well as GPS tracking and the victim’s identification of Nash in a line-up, clearly fingered him as the perp. (While Nash’s attorneys insist the sex was consensual, it doesn’t matter if you’re a cop; having sex with anybody in custody is a felony.)”
And as a trans person, I’d say it’s important to mention she’s trans because trans people are disproportionally targets for crimes, especially sex workers and the fact that she was put in a men’s prison, which puts her safety in jeopardy as it would any woman.

Craig Nash has 6 children who probably are ashamed of their dad. His story is all over the net and everyone knows what he did. He’ll never be able to find a legitimate job, or even a shady job because ABSOLUTELY NO ONE wants to hire a tranny raping ex-cop. His professional life is over.
Marlene
@Kev C: Sorry, Kev… but there’s absolutely a great chance he’ll be able to work outside of Texas *because* he did what he did.
Just as a reminder, gang… the sentence was for *lying* about the rape, NOT the rape itself! He was *never* sentenced for it!
Kev C
@Marlene: Who is going to hire him? He was a respected cop, made Officer of the Month several times. His reputation is ruined and every cop thinks he’s a disgrace and a freak. He’s not working as a cop anywhere.
Marlene
@Kev C: Easy… either a small town or county, especially in the south.
Remember… he was convicted of *lying*, NOT the rape.
Ruhlmann
He’s a cop, he raped a woman AND a transexual and he’s going to prison. There may be justice yet.
