Nobody quite knows why — or at least nobody is saying publicly — Bill White, the gay president of the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum in New York, abruptly resigned this morning. The move ends his two decade career there and comes just as Fleet Week, the museum’s largest annual event, begins. White says only, via statement: “This has not been an easy decision for me, but I feel the time has come for me to pursue new challenges with similar goals. I will continue to dedicate my life to honoring and advocating on behalf of the brave men and women whose sacrifices make it possible for the rest of us to live our lives to the fullest. It has been an unbelievable honor and privilege to have helped lead this Intrepid team that has strived to do so much good for so many.”

“Bill White, the gay president of the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum in New York…” He is a member of the LGBT community, very openly, I might add.
He was twice mentioned as a nominee in the Obama administration; once as Secretary of the Navy, and once as Deputy Chief Management Officer for the DOD. Those are big appointments for a gay man.
Oh, and the fact he’s keeping mum means people wan to know what’s going on behind the scenes at the museum.

I doubt his sexual orientation had much to do with this. The truth is that he is a former waiter with absolutely no qualifications for this job except his relationship with the Fisher family, who treat a ship that belongs to the American people like it was their private yacht. Good riddance.

Oops… looks like someone have have gotten the scoop:
White’s consulting company has been investigated by State Attorney General Andrew Cuomo over business the firm did with the state pension fund. In an interview with the New York Times he insisted that investigation is unrelated to his decision to leave the Intrepid.

@Xtian99: That some, very few, want to kill us is rather irrelevant. The chance of me dying from Islamic terrorism is still lower than from lightning.
No American soldier by virtue of him being in the military has ever promoted LGBT rights.
As far as women and education, the amount of money for construction is a drop in the bucket.
