The Niceties Exchanged Between Prejean and Moakler? Just Beauty Pageant Smiles

Score one for … integrity? After standing by as Donald Trump praised Carrie Prejean (and complimented her “modeling” shots), former Miss USA Shanna Moakler resigned her post as Miss California USA co-pageant director. But didn’t Trump say Moakler and Prejean had reconciled after hours of closed door meetings? Sure he did! But he was standing at a podium at a press conference, homebase for spinning reality into press-friendly accounts.

If you’re just tuning in, Moakler’s stance on Prejean has not been one of friendliness. She criticized the Miss USA runner-up for helping the National Organization for Marriage’s anti-gay cause and failing to mention those naked pictures of her.

Says Moakler of her resignation: “I cannot with a clear conscious move forward supporting and promoting the Miss Universe Organization when I no longer believe in it, or the contracts I signed committing myself as a youth. I want to be a role model for young [women] with high hopes of pageantry, but now feel it more important to be a role model for my children. I am sorry and hope I have not let any young supporters down but wish them the best of luck in fulfilling their dreams.”

Of course, being a role model for young women includes posing naked for Playboy. (link, NSFW)

Well, there you have. This is why our community can never get anywhere. We’re like reptiles, eating our own. Shanon Moalker puts herself out there, counters Prejean’s anti-gay marriage rantings that were all over the news with her own, small campaign to support equality. She speaks out vociferously on the behalf of the gay community, against Prejean’s agenda, and then quits a job that is rather high profile, and likely offers a decent salary–maybe even an opportunity for growth for her within the Trump run organization. She decides that she just cannot live with whatever occured the day before behind closed doors, nor with the disgusting display that was the news conference–essentially a cowtowing to anti-gay powers that be. She does what her gay colleague does not do, which is to quit her job on principle, and what does she get for that? A snarky remark from a gay blog, judging her for posing nude in Playboy of all magazines.

This moral condensention of a woman who poses nude by a blog that routinely elevates gay porn models and actors to star status rings hollow, mean and rather self-destructive when one thinks about it.

I missed the sexual revolution, and the notion of exploring the vast sexual freedom that one can discover in the gay community was something that simply did not interest me. I was criticised and judge constantly by acquaintences that found me to be a drag because I didn’t “go there,” but I never once judged anyone for their choices. So, I have to say that it is really peculiar to find a portion of the gay community, a community of all minority communities that should have by now learned to embrace one another and its supporters, make a moral judgement against a woman who posed nude, suggesting that she is a bad mother!!!

Why don’t we have a strong leader? Because we never give anyone enough time to be built up into being the spokes person we so desperately need. Instead, we busy ourselves with tearing everyone down, the very moment they dare to put themselves out there. Being a leader of this community is a wearing and thankless job, indeed!

The sarcasm of the last line isn’t really necessary. Posing naked doesn’t make you a bad role model. Lying does. And that was her beef with Miss California. She broke her contract, didn’t get punished for it, and Moakler is resigning b/c the organization she works for is hypocritical.

Mrs. Moakler is hotter than Ms. Prejean. And she didn’t need a boob job to do it. Sorry, Carrie, you lose.

Wow. That’s a gutsy move by Moakler, who didn’t need to do this, but she is actually putting her money where her mouth is. I think between Prejean, and the Miss USA that had to goto rehab, and both retaining their titles puts the last nail in this pageant legitimacy.

Openly gay pageant codirector Keith Lewis still hasn’t resigned. Guess a paycheck comes before morality and ethics. Anything to make a buck, eh, Keith?

      MACKMIKE, you totally nailed it!

Thank you Ms Moakler for having the backbone to stand up for what’s right, since the creepy Donald is only concerned about money for this non-event. And, when will Lewis speak out, oh yeah, not his job, its to keep a paycheck.

Bravo to Ms. Moakler for actual honest-to-god integrity and courage in this day and age. Boo to Keith Lewis for being a spineless wuss and boo to queerty for that last snarky comment. Oh, and BOO to Trump for general douchebaggery.

Like a reptile I was going to eat MackMike for his “moral condensention” line. What, does it fog up your internal mirror? Then I realized he was absolutely right, and he expressed his thoughts beautifully.

Ms. Moakler quits a job on principle and speaks out against the Idiot Trump and you criticize her? Yup, that’s where I draw the line.

More power to Shannon.Queerty – whose side are you on?

MackMike, beautifully said, I agree completely. Queerty, that last line was just unnecessary. Posing nude is not immoral, joining NOM is.

Queerty–next time skip the bitching and leave the hot pictures.

Prejean was praised for her honesty, and it turns out that she’s not so honest. Her hypocrisy was outed. Here I thought Queerty was pro-outing of hypocrites and very anti-Prejean.

Did Shanna Moakler ever deny or lie about those Playboy pictures? Shanna is an ALLY. A goddamn sexy one, too.

Mizz Prejean was slated to appear on Larry King last night but canceled at the last minute because of “exhaustion.” (When movie stars use that excuse it usually means they’re going into rehab.) I guess her handlers in Trump’s organization have just figured out she’s not ready for prime time. She can’t answer a basic question without sounding like a complete idiot and making her supporters look bad.

I don’t know about you, but most often when I post on any site, I’m taking a quick break in the workday and on the run. When I typed out that line, I did stop and think, “wait, that’s not right,it’s condescend…” then typed on quickly with the intention to go back and fix it. By the end, of course, I just hit submit, knowing that someone would pick up on it.

You did so in good humor–very funny come back, and thank you for the giggle. I’m embarrassed, yes, but I’m laughing too. Also, thank you for the kind words.

@rich: She didn’t appear becasue she was too hung over from her religious partying. Not becasue someone wised up and told her to shur her bigot mouth.

This bimbo needs to go away now.

oh, and high hopes of pageantry? That’s the most pitifully ironic thing I’ve ever heard. Just think about the word outside the context of a ‘most privileged’ contest.
