I continually am reminded of how I love “Ben & Jerry’s” ice cream. Thanks B&J
Jerry Carlin
Am I crazy? My brain went directly to ‘fudge packers’. Couldn’t they have picked another flavor combo?
SouLKid
LOL @ Jerry Carlin..You are not crazy.I thought the same.
Mike
@Jerry Carlin:
I think that was the point of the ad :p
Mike Barton
A dirty mind is a terrible thing to waste!
Sarah
I am buying a tub of that. As soon as I can leave the house I am going and buying B&J ice cream. (Yes, this is how I shop)
jerrycarlin
@Mike: Oh. I see. I didn’t let my brain think it all the way through. Thank you for helping 🙂
amazingpenis
I don’t like the idea of equating gay marriage with fudge (packing).
Matt B
Ahh its all in good fun, B&J are playing a wink-wink, nudge-nudge with us. And no offense, but I don’t think they’re too concerned about the tender sensibilities of someone named “AmazingPenis”
mb00
@amazingpenis: yeah, that coming from a guy who goes by AMAZINGPENIS.
Lighten up man.

IDK. I think y’all are reading into it.
I think it’s just a fun campaign about fudge and because B&J is based in Vermont, they said it’s legal. I mean we only just got Vermont passed on the gay marriage thing. Plus, the ad is place in Mass. So, why not say it’s legal in Mass.?
condenasty
I saw this ad at the West 4th trains stop in NYC this week too.
Rae
@scott ny’er: because ben & jerry’s is based in vermont.
Dana
They’re missing a clear opportunity to market a flavor called “Chubby Hubby and Hubby.”

This is a really interesting example of where the older, straight liberal community is with gay people today. They recognize the injustice of our situation, but they still think of us as “fudgepackers.” They don’t want us to be treated badly but they don’t us to have equality either. Frankly, that is why it is easier for them to supportive adding sexual minorities to hate crimes laws than it is to pass legislation that actually advances gay legislation. And it is our recognition of this that makes it hard for us to accept the Matthew Shephard Act as enough, if it is all Congress accomplishes this year.
It’s appropriate for gays to express both enthusiasm and anger over this, just as it was appropriate for some gay people to express anger over Obama’s “going to Iowa” joke and some to find it supportive.
Jason
I have to agree w Jerry Carlin et. al. who first went to ‘fudge packers.’ Bad advert campaign but its immediately where so many will go at first glance.
amazingpenis
Well I don’t. Gay marriage = anal sex is an argument used by conservatives to trash it’s image.
Calling myself amazingpenis on a relatively small gay forum doesn’t have the same effect, does it?
Y’all just love the B&J.

Here’s how I looked at it, and maybe I’m reading waaaaaay too much into it: Vanilla = marriage, the generic, basic context in which the controversy exists. Brownie and Fudge = two items not usually featured in the same variety of ice cream because they are both based on chocolate, just in two different and yet similar forms. Whatever it is, I say good for them, it’s a great ad.
Or maybe they chose fudge because it’s awesome in ice cream. B&J uses it in tons of their many varieties.
I think the ad is awesome.
hardmannyc
Oh come on, it’s funny. I hope it WAS intentional. I wish they would have named it “Hershey Highway.”
