Hey you, wielding that magnificently ornate hand-fan and insistently telling everyone your gaydar is on point. Drop that magnificent fan at once, and tell us: Do you really think you can guess the sexual orientation of a total stranger
That was the challenge presented to a roomful of strangers in a video that’s quickly gone viral, in which participants were asked to wager where each of their peers falls on the sexuality spectrum.
Produced by Watchcut Video, the short film finds all five participants scrambling to assign labels to one another based on their appearance and the answers they offer to a series of rapidfire questions.
The resulting video is full of surprises and nicely illustrates how the very idea of a “gaydar” is utter stuff and nonsense.
How about we take this to the next level?
Our newsletter is like a refreshing cocktail (or mocktail) of LGBTQ+ entertainment and pop culture, served up with a side of eye-candy.
Now take your magnificent fan back, you stringent heterosexual who once kissed a guy in college after taking a bunch of mescaline.

I saw the behind the scenes video yesterday with the people being labeled. The lesbian Sharanya really stuck out because she was so negative about the whole experience, and you can see some of that in this video… it was like “Why did you even sign up for this?” And I would say the “gaydar” thing was kinda proven in this video because even though they weren’t all right, most of them were.
SumSay
The only thing that was proven was that the people in the video are somewhat good at guessing these particular people’s sexual orientation. It doesn’t prove anything about gaydar. It was a social experiment for entertainment purposes, nothing more than that really.
Crystix
Thanks SumSay for making sure we realized this was for “entertainment purposes only.”
SumSay
You’re quite welcome Crystix.

I learned years ago that my gaydar was really bad. I thought that every man I am attracted to is gay. So wrong! But I did get most of these right.
mhoffman953
I got them all right until they said that one woman was queer. Why not just call her lesbian?

Eye contact is the best gaydar
Ed
Hay dar is more than just asking what people are interested in. It’s about how they walk, talk, and conduct themselves. Mine was pretty accurate on the guys and has always been unreliable on the girls because, well I’m not into them obviously
Ed
*there LOL

* Hey
Crystix
I find it best to just assume everyone is gay.

Very interesting experiment. I have a hard time with women, but my male gardar is finely honed. I think mine comes from all the years before computer apps when you actually had to cruise.

It’s a pity this was such a poor quality production. Sound was way to low

Unless I’m having sex with them, i dont think about it. And even then, i never know why peopke have wex with me. You talk until something moves in that direction.
