“What it seems like to me is this: Obama’s religous outreach is not witchhunting or targeting gays in any way. But it also is not looking at us as important religious partners. Newsweek columnist Sally Quinn says that [Josh] DuBois was the person who first floated Rick Warren’s name as a possible inaugural speaker; DuBois, who was in charge of faith-based outreach for the Obama campaign, also put together the program that featured Donnie McClurkin, an “ex-gay” gospel singer who has said that “homosexuality is a curse.”
DuBois is young. I don’t think he did these things to send a message to gays and lesbians – I think he did those things because he doesn’t figure us in at all…
My hope is that gay religious organizations will approach DuBois’s office about funding their valuable social service programs that assist homeless queer youth, people with AIDS, and other disenfranchised LGBT communities. Any President’s Council for Faith-Based and Neighborhood Partnerships should not only be reaching out to Evangelicals – it should also be reaching out to us.” –365.com Editor-in-Chief on Josh DuBois’ appointment to the head of the President’s Council for Faith-Based and Neighborhood Partnerships.

The day the gay community realizes Obama and most of his cadre are at best fair weathered friends of the gay community the better off we will be. How many times are you folks going to let Obama and his like walk all over and disrespect us?

Personally, I don’t think government should be funding any faith-based organization or cult. Let them fend for themselves. Religious cults, ergo Roman Catholic and other socalled “christian” denominations and other cult belief system are nothing more than fronts for tax shelters. Remove that and you disempower them and their control over legislation. They’re in the business of making money, their “religious” beliefs are secondary.

Perhaps Pres. Obama’s greatest skill is his inclusiveness and ability to bring as many people as possible into the ‘big tent’. The frustrating thing is that he doesn’t get religion and has no idea how to approach it. No offense to Rev. Dubois, but why in the world would the President appoint an evangelical minister as his religious point person? Instead of going after the people in the middle, just like all Democrats, he is trying to out evangelical the evangelicals.
As opposed to his deft maneuvers in all other areas picking the exactly perfect person to appease the masses, he hastily picks religious figures like Rev. Warren and Rev. Robinson and then bumbles it all to hell. Regardless of what you think of them, they are divisive.
Of all times in history, now is an opportunity for Democrats to take back morality from the zealots on the right for good. Stake the ground in the middle and stand for human rights, civil rights, common good, fairness, feeding the poor, fighting AIDS, saving the environment. Isn’t that what religion is all about anyway?

The first fact of the matter is that Joseph Smith DID see the Angel Moroni in his backyard of upstate NYC and there is no changing of that facts, no matter WHAT “Rev Rick Warren” want to say, therefore, the burden of proof lie on the Community of Christ first to a) disprove the priotity of negro trans-genitalia as affirmed in so called “drag shows”, especially in monetary funds, i.e. “tips. and b) providing a private and respectful area for said transy’s to squat down to urinate.
until then… no justice.. no pee..

IceblinkJM : Of course Obama is a fair-weather friend to the gay community, but…at least I’m sure he’ll be no worse than every past president.

Obama is 10 times worse when you consider that he believes you as a gay person have nowhere else to turn. If we don’t hold his feet to the fire for our equality and rights, don’t expect anything from him. I was told along time ago not to expect anyone to fight for you, you fight for what is right.

“I think he did those things because he doesn’t figure us in at all”
All of the tremendous outreach, inclusion, leadership and policy support Obama has given our community counts for nothing. The definition of “figuring us in” means excluding other people.
Some people support the Predident DESPITE his support for lgbt rights. If they are going to be excluded, let’s start also excluding some of the gays who do not support the President on labor policy, tax policy, the stimulus, Israel or Afghanistan. I got my list. Tell me when the purgue begins.
