Looking through this #3AlbumsThatChangedMyLife and seeing One Direction albums shows how far music has fallen and how bad our generation is

Now we’re throwing the question to you: Which three albums changed your life and helped you discover your sexuality?
Also, a special side question: Can someone explain why so many people have included One Direction in their selections?

Seems like I’m a bit older than the mix on here, but…. these are the three top masterpieces in my book (re: my tastes). I remember being absolutely addicted to each at the time and can still listen to them and smile.
Rumors – Fleetwood Mac
American Idiot – Green Day
Mama Said – Lenny Kravitz

Donna Summer 1976 – F&cking mind blowing!

None. Growing up I never felt my brand of sexuality was in any way represented ..until Frank Ocean. That fateful live performance of Bad Religion on Jimmy Fallon! And then the flood gates opened to guys like the next god Kevin Abstract.
Only wish MC Ride from Death Grips was a homo so I could shoehorn a gratuitous mention.
But non-sexuality related I’d narrow it down to these 3:
Nina Simone. Jeff Buckly. Radiohead.
(Plus a tons of cheesy pop)

I have an interest in the craft of songwriting so Cole Porter (especially) but all thee Great American Songbook era torch songs hold a special gay place in my heart. Hate the Musical but don’t hate the music.

Patti Smith “Horses”
Television “Marquee Moon”
Jimi Hendrix “Are You Experienced?”
dommyluc
“Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band”- The Beatles
“Country Life” – Roxy Music
“Katy Lied” – Steely Dan
…and in a world where you can rip thousands of CDs in lossless format to huge hard drives and stream to various external devices from your PC or network HDD, 3 albums seems kind of paltry, Queerty

I’ll keep posting bout this 20 yr old openly bisexual indie/avant-garde/pop rapper/singer director till the gay blogs stop ignoring him. Why are the hip straight blogs always waaaay more culturally aware of LGBT artists (who are ACTUALLY TALENTED) than our own myopic, culturally regressive sites. No wonder kids are forced to see themselves as Ariana or Gaga or Nicki or Taylor etc. The LGBT does us all a disservice.

I don’t think any album affected my sexuality or coming out or anything like that. There are many memories as many are the soundtrack of my life but none had anything to do with changing my life or discovering my sexuality.

Choosing only 3 albums is like choosing the 3 best-looking men you have ever known – impossible, cause it changes over time.
However…
The Mamas and The Papas – Best Of (The Millennium Collection)
The Beatles – Sgt. Pepper or Abbey Road
Pink Floyd – Dark Side Of The Moon
King Crimson – In The Court Of The Crimson King
The Who – Who’s Next?
Donna Summer – Bad Girls
Blondie – Parallel Lines
The Cars – Candy-O
Split Enz – True Colors
Roxy Music – Avalon
Jimmy Somerville – The Very Best of Jimmy Somerville, Bronski Beat and The Communards
George Michael – Ladies and Gentlemen
Radiohead – Kid A
…yeah, I could go on and on.

R. Kelly 12 Play
Backstreet Boys Backstreet’s Back

I remember after hearing men sing love songs about women, women singing love songs about men, when hearing Barbra I identified with her singing about love for a man. Men weren’t singing love songs to men and women weren’t singing love to women when I was a teen. I remember Laura Nyro’s song Emmie sounding like she was singing about her love for a woman but it could have been symbolic love like for a childhood nanny. She later joined us but at the time she mostly sung about love for a man.
