Three people were killed and five more wounded when gunmen opened fire on a gay festival in Mexico’s southern tourist resort of Acapulco, Agence France-Presse reports.
Attackers stormed Tres Palos on the edge of the city where the “Reina Gay” festival was taking place, opening fire into the crowd with no apparent specific target.
Though the three victims have not been identified in the press, it is confirmed they were all male between the ages of 23 and 33.
Also unclear is whether the attack was antigay or just part of the largely drug-fueled violence that’s been plaguing the region. Acaplulco has the highest homicide rate in the nation, and many nearby schools have closed in recent weeks in response to the spike of bloodshed surrounding the coastal city.
Last year, 43 Mexican teachers’ college students were kidnapped and murdered by a gang in Ayotzinapa, about 150 miles from Acapulco.

This is horrible but why doesn’t queerty run stories about how IS and even moderate muslims hate bisexual and gay men and want to kill us all?

Lets be honest. Mexico has had a problem for the last several years with Drug lords and such killing people left and right. There was recently a couple of surfers from another country killed and their van burnt up. I personally will not travel to Mexico until they start taking care of all these killings. I think there should be a ban on traveling to Mexico until then.
Whether they attacked because of it being a gay festival or not we don’t know. There is just too much killing in Mexico.

This didn’t make my local news but the shooting in CA sure did.

@Mack:
The advisories are sufficient. There’ll never be a ban on Travel to Mexico.
My company has an office in Monterrey and it’s an OK city. Kinda boring but there are a TON of foreign companies with big back office operations there; Home Depot’s store support office is around the corner from my company’s place.
The draw, other than lower costs, is Monterrey *doesn’t* have a violence problem, it’s not as far from the States as Mexico City, and there is a prestigious university in Monterrey making for a good talent pool.
