As far as we know, Michael Mineo doesn’t play for our team, so the acquittals of his three alleged NYPD assailants doesn’t apply in this post. But there is the transgender Dallas transportation employee who was denied a gender-marker change by the city, even though she secured a court order last February demanding state agencies do it. And then there’s California’s black lesbian firefighter Brenda Lee, who in 2007 was awarded a $6.2 million payout after suing over racial and sexual orientation discrimination, claiming the LAFD refused to act on her complaints or transfer her. But the 2nd District Court of Appeal just reversed that ruling, saying Lee didn’t exhaust all remedies available to her. Ouch.

Oh, how awful that this plaintiff didn’t retain the booty from a ridiculous out-of-control jury. Even if everything this woman said is true, it is absolutely laughable that her “compensation” would be to make her a millionaire 6 times over. That is 25 times the amount that a soldier killed in combat would receive. That money comes out of the taxpayers and is reflected in degraded firefighting services.
And it was a verdict and award, not a “settlement”. Whoever writes this stuff for Queerty is an ignoramus.
