We all think we know the story.
Ahead of the 1994 Winter Olympics in Lillehammer, figure skater Nancy Kerrigan suffered a broken leg, threatening to keep her out of the games. (It didn’t.)
The culprits, fellow U.S. skater Tonya Harding’s ex-husband Jeff Gillooly and bodyguard Shawn Eckhardt, were soon caught.
The scandal rocked the world, but how much do you really know about the bizarre story besides these few facts?
How about we take this to the next level?
Our newsletter is like a refreshing cocktail (or mocktail) of LGBTQ+ entertainment and pop culture, served up with a side of eye-candy.
A new film called I, Tonya sets out to fill in the gaps, and it’s a truly insane tale.
Check out the trailer below, and look for the film, which stars Margot Robbie, Allison Janney, Bobby Cannavale and Sebastian Stan, in theaters Friday, December 8th:

The attack on Nancy did not keep her out of the ’94 games. She won the silver medal.

Another uplifting Hollywood movie.

I thought the attack did damage to her knee, not “break her leg.” How could she have practiced or skated with a broken leg? Am I wrong?
Kangol
You’re right, Queerty is wrong. (This is easily verifiable information.) The attacker only badly bruised Nancy Kerrigan’s leg, striking her below the knee. I vividly recall the moment right after on TV, as the cameras rolled, when she screamed out, “Why? Why? Why?” That was one of the most bizarre sports moments I’ve ever witnessed. Perhaps the weirdest. She thankfully recovered and was able to go to the Olympics in Lillehammer.

How does this relate to the gay agenda?

This whole post is bizarre, and I’m not talking about the subject matter. Why the “prepare to gag” line in the headline? The movie’s been getting great reviews (Allison Janney plays Harding’s mother). And Kerrigan’s leg was not broken. Good lord.
Kieran
Yeah, Nancy Kerrigan’s leg wasn’t actually broken. Her kneecap was just smashed in a few times with an iron bar. Big difference.
BigWill
@ Kiernan That’s not true, either. The guy hit Kerrigan’s knee a few inches above the ankle with an ASP telescopic baton. Her leg was only bruised, not broken, and she skated in the ’94 Winter Olympics a month later, where she won silver.

I hear it makes her sympathetic like she didn’t know about the attack and her mother was a terrible b****. So poor Tonya. So it does what that Law and Order did for the Menendez Brothers. Did you see that? It looked to me like the sexual abuse by the father really happened (I always thought that was reaching for any defense) and also made Leslie Abramson look sympathetic. I mean she was trying to adopt and raise a baby for christsakes.

Rocked what world? Rocked whose world? NOT!

Nancy Kerrigan and Tanya Hall were both low-life girls who lucked up and made it to the Olympics. After the incident and games Kerrigan was so ungrateful to everyone around her who made the mistake of feeling sorry for her that she was immediately dropped from the memories of everyone. Harding was smart and learned how to manipulate the media and even though every thing she was offered and accepted was made for tv at 2am she kept the bills paid. I had always figured Harding the type who within weeks after the Olympics of 1994 would be doing Mandigo sized anal porn. Yes, the woman was cute but she was and still comes off as low-life, trailer park trash.

That picture alone makes me want to see it.
