We have no idea what a “bromosexual” is, but if we were to define one after watching the latest Andrew Christian promo video, we’d say it’s as a fashionably inept, mean-spirited and unkempt gay man who enjoys erotic wrestling and hanging out with drag queens. Occasionally, the bromosexual is invited to parties.
According to Andrew Christian, “a guy who is bromosexual is ‘totally straight.’ In fact he will punch you in the face if you say that he’s gay. He’s so totally straight that he has sex with tons of chicks…so he says. Sure his bro might be in the room with him, maybe videotaping it (with lots of close-ups of the penis)… or doing the same girl at the same time… with their penises touching…”
Oh! Okay.
Additionally, the bromosexual “always hangs out in the showers at the gym… and yeah, maybe he was in a few circle jerks in middle school… and sure he puts his penis and testicles on his friends’ faces every chance he gets when they’re passed out drunk… and sure that frat initiation thing was a bit weird, but… he is ‘totally 100% not gay.'”
How about we take this to the next level?
Our newsletter is like a refreshing cocktail (or mocktail) of LGBTQ+ entertainment and pop culture, served up with a side of eye-candy.
What a great message for a “gay-friendly” advertisement!

One more reason to loathe this brand. Reinforcing the “masc” stereotype and the self-congratulatory voyeurism of homos who pine after straight guys. Yet one more notch on the trope that guys that are not attracted to you or your bodyparts should be the highest sexual achievement for us. I’m so fucking tired of words like “bromo” and “gaybro”; these pitiful, cheesy demonyms for guys who still have so much internalized homophobia that they have to distance themselves from anything feminine or not adhering to the societal pressure of being a “real man”. Go fuck yourself Andrew Christian.
jmmymack
Are you guys being serious? It’s SO obviously a joke and clearly making fun of homophobic straight “dude” culture that uses gay panic to mask its egregious homoeroticism. Let’s maybe put our irony hats on today, shall we? Just because you’re having trouble grappling with the idea of satire doesn’t mean all advertising needs to be dumbed down to accommodate your idiocy. That would make the world a pretty dumb place, just saying.

Why am I older than most of the readers and yet more aware of what’s going on with a lot of younger men? Is it because I work in higher ed?
Reality people.

They could of used bros with better bods, both bros and homos can have great bods, gay for pay with a hot bod assures success. Who wants to look at some out of shape skinny ass that looks like he is from a 1970s porno lol

Lol, I get it. Who wants to be gay anyway. Gay culture really sucks. So if straight guys can chill and jerk off together, be cool about it. It’s no ones business. Gay land isn’t fun place to be. The gay title sucks as well. A bunch of fucking pre Madonna, egotistical, non ethical, clicky queens. Fuck all that and the drama associated with gays.
I am gay and straight people are way more in depth to be around. I literally don’t understand why I like guys.

@jmmymack: Oh, we got the joke. It’s just a tiring one. I personally dislike the disco dancing, over-the-top brand that. The underwear is atrocious, by the way. I guess that’s how gay advertising is. Just throw sex and a bunch of raunchy dudes and the gays will eat it up.

Sorry, I don’t find much humor in glamorizing someone who will “punch you in the face if you say that he’s gay”. You can be feminine, you can be masculine, I don’t really care it’s your life after all. But if you can’t handle being called gay, then maybe you shouldn’t do gay things. Many people around the world die and get beaten and live their lives in shame because they are gay – so it’s not something to joke around and make light of. The most important thing in life is being honest and true to yourself and this ad campaign from Andrew Christian does nothing but reinforce the notion that gay men who lie about themselves or act more like straight men are better or more desirable and I don’t agree with that at all.

I googled the word and found it listed on urban dictionary from back in 2007. It’s the same exact wording as on the Andrew Christian site, so they obviously used that site for inspiration but I still feel the same. Although now it’s also plagiarized as well. Very classy…

@gauty: I understand your frustration, but lets not pretend that gay men themselves aren’t responsible for this continual idolization of all things “straight”.

Oh I know all about the “bromosexual” type kind of guy. I went to an all male boarding school and in college there were quite a few of these guys I came across who fell into this category. Has anyone watched the movie “Longhorns”?? The two good friends of the lead character are the kinds of guys I am talking about. They banged lots of girls and were always talking about vagina. Yet, when we were alone and horny and popped in a porn video (always straight porn), we would jerk off together and it would eventually lead to him grabbing my hand and having me jerk him off to ejaculation, or sucking him off. No kissing on the mouth though and no sex because “thats gay”. I think its natural though. I don’t think it necessarily makes them gay by doing this. I think it makes them horny and their sexuality a bit more fluid. Some are closeted but I think most just want to bust a nut.

Hot, but he still makes ugly underwear.

@Brendan: Oh dear God its a joke making fun of the trope, not reinforcing it. How can you not see this?
@tardis: Got a problem with sexuality?

@Liberumatti: GEEZ … COULD NOT AGREE WITH YOU MORE !

@Brendan: Nicely expressed !

Way to usher in the “GAY PRIDE” season with idolizing “STRAIGHT MEN”. Is there no way to take the lead and actually MAKE GAY PRIDE and SELF WORTH SEXY????

Gross.

Poor Miss Christian! I guess we are to assume that by purchasing and wearing his (tired) underwear, we can be like “bromosexuals”. Honey, leave the urban slang to real hipsters.

That’s Andrew Christian in the video. He’s cute for an older guy.

not all gay mean are flamboyant and not all gay men are butch. most are somewhere in the middle. I must have seen a different ad than the rest of you. I saw 2 guys who weren’t ashamed to play around with either gender (even if the female were drag queens) and I don’t think the Gay community should have anything negative to say about a young man who wants to explore his sexual options. I think that would make this ad a positive thing for a young man who doesn’t identify himself as homosexual, but has feelings he may want to explore. I have always felt that the reason I am gay is because I am not attracted to females. I personally have as about as much attraction for a flamboyant male as I do a female. I know everyone has their own preferences, but is it too much to ask for acceptance for everyone and not just those who have the obvious stereotypical traits of being gay?
