We were about to post our Happy Endings for today when we got an email from a lovely reader named Lawrence. Within said email, we found a link, which in turn took us to a People Magazine “Exclusive” about Grey’s Anatomy star TR Knight. You know what that story said? That he’s a homo.
Knight says:
I guess there have been a few questions about my sexuality, and I’d like to quiet any unnecessary rumors that may be out there,” Knight tells PEOPLE in a statement. “While I prefer to keep my personal life private, I hope the fact that I’m gay isn’t the most interesting part of me.
We can’t help wonder if “a few questions” references our post from yesterday in which we said Knight seems “a bit faggy (and cute).” Probably not, but it doesn’t hurt to pretend…
Anyway, we’re sure Knight’s one of the most interesting men on the planet, but we have to admit, the fact that he’s gay does make him a little more interesting. To us, at least.
How about we take this to the next level?
Our newsletter is like a refreshing cocktail (or mocktail) of LGBTQ+ entertainment and pop culture, served up with a side of eye-candy.

We as a Community should really support him right (TK)now. He didn’t have to “come-out”. We should also applaud “Greys Anatomy” for dumping Isaah Washington after his “little faggot” remark. Wonder how Isaah would have felt if Dempsy called him a “n*****”.
Scott
Where did you hear that Grey’s Anatomy was dumping Washington?
dustin
i haven’t heard anything about GA dumping Isaah, but they should…
Ryan
Kudos for him coming out – especially in the way that he did. It isn’t the most interesting thing about him. Being gay isn’t a big deal and TR Knight clearly recognizes that.
David
Unless Isaah issue some sort of apology, he’s so on my shit list. But score one for the gays; Knight’s a hottie.

Grey’s Anatomy actor T.R. Knight was “forced” out of the closet.
Although not closeted in his personal life T.R Knight had apparently given the impression that he was “straight” on more than one occasion since the show became the ratings hit on ABC. Before co-starring on Grey’s Anatomy he was an out gay man working as an actor in the New York theatre scene.
The media (mainly print and on-line gossip sites) made a big deal out of the “scuffle” between Grey’s Anatomy actors Patrick Dempsey and Isaiah Washington partly because the incident confirmed their “reporting” of T.R. Knight’s homosexuality in many blind items since last November (2005).
Inexplicably when the story first broke in the mainstream media they did not mention that Isaiah Washington referred to his co-worker T.R Knight as a faggot. Instead the media focused on the scuffle which in turn distracted from the fact that Washington used the hateful gay slur and consequently maliciously “outed” his co-worker T.R Knight.
What if the situation were reversed?
What if T.R Knight had made a racial slur towards Isaiah Washington would the mainstream media not have reported it?
Initially, the gay community praised T.R Knight for coming out as a gay man while he is still part of the top rated TV show instead of waiting until the show is off the airwaves like so many have done over the years. As it stands now, he joins the long list of actors / public personalities that have been forced out of the closet due to a “scandal”.
It will be interesting to see how this will affect T.R. Knight’s storyline on Grey’s Anatomy and if the viewers will accept an out gay man “playing straight” on a weekly basis.
And what about the gay viewers of Grey’s Anatomy?
Should they boycott watching the show with Isaiah Washington as still part of its cast?
Should Isaiah Washington issue an apology? To whom?
To T.R. Knight? To the gay community?
Desperately
I really like Isaiah Washington as actor. He and Sandra Oy are the best actors on the show.
I want to believe that it was a mistake. And that he apologize for using such language. Unfortunately the n-word, b*tch and F*ggot seem to be the regular vocab in some circles. So we have a much bigger problem to deal with.
But I’m not that Isaiah’s comments forced T.R. to come out. I’m sure the entire cast and set knew T.R. was gay.

Kudos to TR Knight for his excellent handling of a situation that’s all too often completely fucked up. “I hope the fact that I’m gay isn’t the most interesting part of me.” Jesus, that’s as cool as anything I’ve ever heard. Lance, Reichen, and even George Takei could take a page from TR’s book. Oh, wait! He didn’t just come out as a publicity stunt to publicize a book! He’s just a gay man living his gay live as no big deal. Here’s to more stars being stars on their own merit and not the merit of their sexual proclivities.

Its interesting. I think celebrity gossip is generally lame, but I think whats come of this row between Isiah and McWhatever his name is has been really fascinating. It does feel as though TR was forced to publicly acknowledge his sexual orientation, but that’s the least of the issue. I first read about this over at Towerload and was baffled at the level of sheer racial bias and bigotry the thread there was tainted with. Things here, happily, seem much more sensible. I think the comments by Isaiah Washington were in incredibly poor taste and the “community” as it is deserves to be outraged. But this news story seems to be bringing a lot of other gay and race related issues to the fore. I’m going to be paying close attention to how this plays out.

ditch Isaiah. Last night was the first night I watched Grey’s and cringed everytime Burke came onto the screen. This bigot needs to be shown the door.
Much like Mel Gibson the only reason an apology comes is not out of sincere sorrow but out of getting called to the carpet for showing your true colors.
Au revoir Dr. McBigot!
adaml
Dempsey is hotttt!
Susan
Bigotted Issah Washington has a great character to play on Grey’s Anatomy…..lest he forget it is only a part he plays that we like….not him personally…and too many feel they are indisposable…….keep calling people faggot and you beome the “N”word Mr Washington…if you only knew how boring and tedious that is to all of us. You are now the pain in the ass Isaah… the uninformed Isaah…the hateful Isaah…nothing is worse than a bigot demanding to be treated with respect. Just admit it Isaah..your are not worthy.
Brittany Cummings
this is bullcrap i have visited at least 20 webpages and posted on almost all of them! he’s gay, so what . why can’t you people see a good actor when they come around. i know 4 sur i wont luk any differently at him then i did before he is still an actor( my fav. actor) and he is still a person! GET A LIFE!
FizziekruntNT
Uh, Brittany…crack whore much?
Bill Simmons
Like it or not, the vast majority of “straight” men, including myself, are disgusted and sickened by gay “men”. As a lawyer and former prosecutor, I have not, over my career of nearly forty years, met so much as one judge or one prosecutor who actually liked so-called gay men. Few, if any, of us are convinced that being gay is not either a choice or a mental aberration. I have never yet met any male members of my profession who have actually ever, knowingly, invited any gay male into his home or repre3sented an admittedly gay male client on a pro bono basis and not charged the hell out of the pitiful creature. So, it comes as no surprise that neither I nor any of those I’ve talked to among the Bar can enjoy Grey’s Anatomy as much as we did before we learned that Mr. Knight does not prefer woman to men as sexual partners. I say “dump him or change his character to refect what said pitiful creature is off screen”.

Dear No. 15
As a partner at a large Canadian firm… I’m gay. AND NO ONE CARES. You don’t like gay people. I don’t really understand why you’re posting that on a gay blog, but then again, what do us silly fags understand anyways?
-scb
Bill Simmons
I’d heard that the guy was gay, and since I liked the show so much and didn’t want to believe it, I searched under his name and came up with this site, in an effort to confirm or dispute the claim. Please stay in Canada.
scb
I plan on it darling. Who goes to Illinois, anyways?
-SCB
I had something typed here but I erased it. I’ll just say – the NAACP would be dissapointed.
Bill Simmons
Illinois? And why would “the NAACP . . . be dissapointed (sic)”? I’m guessing you’re “confused” about many things. But, hey, that’s okay. And Canada is a good place for those of your chosen persuasion [although North Korea would be even better].
Nicole
Hmph, this is news to me…as is the nature of the Washington/Dempsey scuffle. Shit, I was just watching season one on DVD and season 3 simultaneously..now I’m going to have to do all that and send bitter vibes towards Isaiah. 🙁 why do people say stupid shit like that? Who cares, really?
And the people who came here to post hateful things…not cool.
Be ashamed.
the rest of you – gay men? chin up, TR’s a cute one. 😉
~nicole
Joel
Gosh Mr. Simmons, it’s wonderful that you are acquainted with “the vast majority of straight men,” and I can honestly say that, if all your little friends are anything like you, “the vast majority” of gay men happily return the sentiment. ‘Cause, I mean, I’m pretty disgusted.
phil
All kidding aside, T.R. Knight is both a good actor, and HOT! I would love to have him show me his bedside manner…
dear bill
#15- What straight man enjoys Grey’s Anatomy for anything other than boob patrol?
Ann
Wow,
I too had googled T.R. Night because I was a bit slow on the uptake and wondered how his coming out had been handled. I was appalled to find the likes of Bill Simmons on your site. Rarely do backward inbreads like Billy boy claim an education. Clearly Bill you are such a ignoramous that your contemporaries wouldn’t risk sharing any personal information with you. I’m surprised you haven’t quoted scripture to justify your ignorance. I’m a female hetero who has been happily married for twenty years, I have two children and a masters degree and I wouldn’t want to have you anywhere near either me or my family. How interesting that such a homophobe spent as much time as you did on this site and took the time to respond to comments – your pitiful verbage brings mind to the quote – me thinks thou doth protest too much!!!!
Yuck!!!

i’m confused what is the big problem. Now the world can see that the gay community still need alot of professional help. They whine about freedom and rights according to the first amendment and ever time someone say something about gays …..ooooh my feelings are hurt ….we want an apology. grow up…… either freedom of speech for everyone or not. make up you gay……. mind.
Mel
Kudo’s to whomever said freedom of speech comes with a price. The price for freedom of speech is that sometimes we hear things we don’t like. I have been called so many names that I can’t remember them all, but they do nothing to me. Life is 10% what happens to you and 90% how you respond to it. I forget who said that, but it is so true. Let me be the first to shout loud and clear for all to hear “I am a Faggot. I am a pillow biter.” Call me what you will, I am what I am, or said Popeye the sailor man. I love sailors.
DC
I too googled Mr. Knight to see what the big deal was and ended up here. I found Mr. Simmon’s comments interesting. He’s certainly entitled to his opinion, a not uncommon one among the geriatric set. I feel the exact same way nearly word for word… just change the words “gay men” to the word “lawyers” and I couldn’t say it better myself.
RA Blancq
Dear dear Bill Simmons,
And all of you out there, you are a dying breed. Do you actually think we care if you give us permission to exist or not. We will servive and flourish as we have always. You will, on the other hand, be forced to accept us in time. The law you represent is changing and will eventually roll over you and your kind. Prepare yourself for the shock. Say your prayers at night and hope you are forgiven for your stupidity and simple mindedness.
John3
Congratulations! I know that coming out had to be a big move for you. Washington was completely out of line to say what he said. Good manners just don’;t do something like that. I am out to some friends…many of them said that alreaky knew…but that it was ok with them. I think that I was always gay, but I was too afraid to admit it. Finally a friend brought me out. He doesn’t know how great a favor he did for me! Don’t leave the program. I never miss an episode, infact you are the reason I watch. Your latest chapter was really great….it was truly moving. GREAT SHOW!!!! I hope to see lots more of that program…..ALL THE LUCK TO YOU!!
Romans
Therefore God gave them over in the sinful desires of their hearts to sexual impurity for the degrading of their bodies with one another. They exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served created things rather than the Creator– who is forever praised. Amen. Because of this, God gave them over to shameful lusts. Even their women exchanged natural relations for unnatural ones. In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed indecent acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their perversion. Futhermore, since they did not think it worthwhile to retain the knowledge of God, he gave them over to a depraved mind, to do what ought not to be done.
Sarah
Well, I’ll start of with a little message to Bill. I’d just like to say that men like you are just pityful. Frankly, I’d rather have 10 gay men than 1 of you. I suggest you get some common sense and realize that you don’t live in the middle ages. Everyone’s entitled to their own opinions and preferences, deal with it!
Ok, now that that’s of my chest, on to why I came here. I only just heard about the people magazine article, so I did some internet searching to see what exactly was in the article. I’m rather sorry that T.R. turned out to like men, seeing as I rather liked him myself, but I’m happy to see that he being true to himself and isn’t pretending to be something he’s not.
