After being captured on camera attacking subway riders in New York, a woman has decided to turn herself over to police.
While assaulting a 28-year-old man and a 35-year-old man, she turned to the passengers filming the incident on their smartphones and said “Make sure you get my good side.”
The attack occurred sometime around 7 p.m. on December 18 on an A train near the Jay Street stop in Brooklyn.
In the footage, 28-year-old Merci Chrisette can be seen getting into an argument with a fellow passenger.
“Do you want to know what’s going to happen when I get off this train?” she says. “I’m going to cut you, and I’m going to get away with it.”
Then, she takes a break from the verbal sparring to look straight into the eye of the person filming to say, “Hi, I’m used to the camera. Make sure you get my good side.”
Then, she removes a sharp object from her purse and scratches two men, both of whom were traveling together.
The New York Daily News reports that neither of the victims needed medical attention.
According to Gothamist, Chrisette — who also goes by the name Chrissy Jackson and the nickname Isla — fled the train at the Nostrand Avenue stop.
A friend of one of the victims claims the fight began because her friend was holding the same pole that Chrisette was leaning on.
When video footage of the attack was posted online, Chrisette turned herself into police.
After footage of the video appeared online, Chrisette handed herself in to police yesterday. She has been charged with assault, reckless endangerment, and criminal possession of a weapon.
Prior to turning herself in, she posted a message on Facebook, insisting that the video footage hadn’t caught the entire exchange and saying she wanted to make a public apology.
The post reads:
“First of all let me say that I not normally a violent person… There was more to this story that was not captured in the beginning.
I see a lot of hate and it makes me sad because all I ever believed in was peace and love. However, society has chosen to shun and discriminate against me.
I will be doing the right thing very soon but in turn hope that in the future society learns to be kind toward the LGBT community because we are human as well.
I would like to make a public apology and please pray for me and respect my privacy at this time. Thank you and happy holidays.”

She must have been on her way to the Piers…where this behavior is typical.
Ummmm Yeah
All transgenders are crazy. Drop the T. They are going to drag us down with them.
JessPH
That’s inexcusable behavior. Shame!
Kieran
She’s just angry because she can’t use the ladies room.
“Come out” gay men so that you can be linked with men who think they were born in the wrong body.
Captain Obvious
This is also why people’s parents should really teach their kids not to run their mouths either. You never know if someone is carrying a concealed weapon and both were really at fault. The other guy kept running his mouth too.
I’ve used public transportation in cities for over a decade and never once had an altercation. All you have to do is shut up and ride. I always rolled my eyes at the morons starting stuff with random people running their mouth, luckily it rarely went beyond loud shouting from both idiots.
ramonromano
@Kieran: actually in NYC she can use whatever bathroom she would like to. So I highly doubt that’s the issue.
Matt Achine
@Ummmm Yeah: Since they’re already making “us” hateful & presumtuous, yes?

Avery Alvarez
Azealia Banks, is that you?

She’s like the equivalent of the crazy person on the bus — except she’s on a subway train channeling Grace Jones. I don’t know what her victims could have done to prompt this behavior but that was totally outrageous. She probably turned herself in because she didn’t want to be perp-walked out of her flat. She’s lucky her victims didn’t retaliate — like with a gun or a knife. I feel for the victims. On a crowded subway train is the last place you want to be tussling with a crazy person even if you have to.
darkanser
@darkanser: Having said that, I’m thinking the guy probably said something bigoted and/or homophobic but I’m assuming.
Chris
We don’t know what happened before the filming started. But unless they physically attacked her, there is no justification for her actions.
I don’t care how badly society treats you; you don’t have the right to physically attack someone.
MarionPaige
I wonder, how many hours did that “person” rehearse that routine before getting on the subway and singling out someone to play it on?
Too many people on the subway wrongly assume that if they just ignore someone, nothing will happen. When I get even a hint that something might be “odd” about someone on the subway, I move to another car, or get out of the car and wait for another train. I’ve seen people standing on the subway trying to ignore someone who was screaming at them.
If someone comes up to you like this on the subway, you should never DECLINE medical assistance. There is a quirk in the law in NYC that holds it isn’t a legal assault if no one is hurt. By declining medical attention, the “victims” have probably helped that person get away with it.

Someone needs to beat that trannys face in

“Make sure you get my good side.” You’ll have to tell us which side that is, madamoiselle.
Doug
You gave a great performance, Foxy Brown!!
Alejandro Cruz
Nice job girl..I’m with you
SonOfKings
I don’t condone the criminal conduct, but damn ain’t she got fabulous style and flair! With a nice head wrap on she could channel Cleopatra Jones. RIP Tamara Dobson. You were an original.
JerseyMike
People need to shut the fuck up and mind their own business and she needs to keep her damned hands to herself. You can say anything in the world to me, just don’t put your hands on me. She let these clowns get herself a case or possible jail time. Rikers here she comes.
Sean Burwinkel
Good on her for turning herself in. You rarely see a guilty person do that. Shows a certain level of integrity.
Giancarlo85
I don’t know the full story. But it appears she did have remorse for her actions and wish she didn’t do it. She should have just let it go. Some people are simply ignorant and stupid (take a look at some who post on here for example), especially when it comes to trans people. You can’t change the thought processes of the simple minded. Violence is not the answer.
Palto
@Captain Obvious: you’re a naive idiot. I take the A train everyday and a person can breath the wrong way for a psycho like this to let loose.
inbama
It seems some people are determined to place at least some of the blame for this bizarre behavior on the victims.
Sad.
onthemark
Well I see she has the official “LGBT community” smarmy phony lingo down pat:
“I see a lot of hate and it makes me sad because all I ever believed in was peace and love.”
Barf!
@Giancarlo85: How ironic, the hypocrite who criticized Captain Obvious for posting at 1am on an average weekday (so what?) is posting at a quarter to midnight PST on NEW YEAR’S EVE. Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha.
Giancarlo85
And here we have it folks. He’s dragging his hateful crap from article to article. I told him enough is enough.
I was at my boyfriend’s house. We were watching a movie. LOL. Not the most exciting. I didn’t go out last night. Too much traffic and too overrated.
Captain Obvious
@Palto: Sounds like you don’t know the meaning of naive. I’ve been taking public transportation for over 12 years. Not once have I been in or witnessed a physical fight. Not once has anyone done anything to me or anyone else. At most there’s been some bickering that quickly stopped.
The drivers put people off. The police will arrest people. The only naive idiot is you if you’re living in an area so bad that it’s somehow like that and you haven’t had the sense to move. You don’t get to dictate my experience.
The video SHOWS the white guy starting something with her. A trans black woman. Do you realize how many trans women of color are MURDERED each year? And yet you IDIOTS are “confused” as to why she has a box cutter? Grow up you dumb, faggot. Not everything is about you.
Stop thinking about you in this scenario. She’s trans, she’s of color, and statistically the most likely to be murdered this year. Do you know how that feels? No your paranoid ass doesn’t. You claim you can’t breath on public transportation. How does she feel then? Wake up.
Captain Obvious
@onthemark: Meh he’s just a little troll he chose me to project his weird insecurities on. Apparently watching TV and being on Queerty at night is only ok for him but totally odd if I do it. I wasn’t even offended by his little weak insults it just made him sound like what he is: A crazy person.
Like the mother in Carrie flipping out because she went outside to interact with other people her age.
Giancarlo85
@Captain Obvious: I wasn’t on Queerty all that night. Maybe just five minutes but that is it. You are on here a lot more than me apparently. You now comment under every article.
You need to be placed on sedatives and locked in a cell.
Brian
Trans people generally have wider psychological issues that are not solved by “transformation”. In fact, I think their “transformation” makes things worse for them. They create more problems for themselves than existed before.
joeyty
@Captain Obvious: Yes, but who are the main culprits in the murders of trans women of color (usually prostitutes too, which is dangerous for anybody)?
Giancarlo85
@Brian: They have wider psychological issues because of bigots like you constantly pushing abuse at them. You know gay men have more psychological issues because of heterosexual bigots like you. You are not homosexual. You are heterosexual. You are nothing more than a bigoted troll who is making things up.
youarekiddingme
@Captain Obvious: Seriously? The victim “started something” with her? I didn’t see that at all…The guy who has been bringing up the boy who was shot by police for carrying the “look alike toy guy” with orange tip cut/taken off. He was the victim in that case and NOW you want to blame the victim in this case? Wtf? Double Standard Perhaps? Open one’s eyes perhaps? Aren’t you the one who constantly complains about people/cops should just turn the other way when they get spit on (after all that’s not being hit or assaulted)? Since when do words (that I never heard) other than his freedom to speak, justify someone to assault another? If she lives in fear, a box cutter is NOT the answer. If that were a real attack, she would have lost…badly! There are legal weapons that she could carry and actually be trained in their proper, legal use. Now she faces legal charges. She was showing off to a crowd and very proud of the fact that she could get a man to back away from her. Bravo! Could you imagine if she had a gun?
Tommy
Well, evidently everything wasn’t recorded (the beginning), as people only start recording things when they know there is something to be recorded.
I imagine he probably made a anti-transgender comment and that didn’t sit well.
youarekiddingme
@Tommy: Nice supposition…Do you infer the same when a negative video shows up on a cop? BTW, does the inferred “transgender comment” rationalize physical violence in your mind?
Giancarlo85
We’d have to await and see more investigation before we assume anything. It does appear she took it a step too far.
gggb
I think she’s a hero, personally.
