According to the NYPD, the incident happened around 11:40 p.m. on Saturday night. The 25-year-old victim, whose name is not being released, was inside a single-occupancy unisex bathroom at the historic Christopher Street bar when her attacker asked to enter, claiming he just needed to wash his hands.
After the door was closed and locked, he allegedly forced himself upon the woman, first groping and then sexually assaulted her.

The attacker, who is described as a Hispanic male in his 30s, standing at 5’10” and weighing approximately 250 pounds, quickly fled the scene. After stumbling out of the bathroom, the victim also left the bar; however, she returned about an hour or so later and called 911.
She was taken to Lenox Hill Hospital for treatment. So far, no arrests have been made, but the investigation is ongoing.

That’s a disgrace to such an iconic monument to the gay community fighting the cause.

Sad, may she heal from this tragic event against her.

I find it hard to believe you can be raped in a busy bar on Saturday night in the bathroom. Then she leaves and comes back an hour later to report it. Was she so drunk that she didn’t realize it at the time?
Stached1
@Stache: Agreed, this does not make sense, or add up. She did not even tell the bartender or bar staff, and then waited an hour and then called 911. I would not be surprised if she/he made it up.

Sounds fishy to me.

Are you fucking kidding me?

Who did it ? Did anyone see the suspect ?
Cody Hondros
I hope she’s okay… And hey find the douche who did this to her…
Ummmm Yeah
These delusional men in dresses have lied about Stonewall from day one. He probably got roughed up by a John that did want to pay that he picked up outside the bar.
joeyty
Of course I’d want a full investigation but this story sounds unlikely for a slew of reasons.

What’s a trans woman is it a dude who switched to female or a woman who became a man
Sluggo2007
I don’t believe a word of this. I know where the bathrooms are at the Stonewall. Somebody would have heard the commotion, that is, if it was not consensual.

Not always, but often enough I have gone into the ‘men’s room’ and found 2 or more guys having sex Oral and anal…and I just turned and walked out.
I suspect this was one of those times when a ‘rape’ could just be ignored because it just didn’t feel like a rape.

I find several of the previous comments on this post offensive. A woman has been raped and as often happens in cases of sex crimes people doubt her claim. Having never been a victim of a sex crime I can only imagine the thoughts that go through the person’s mind afterwards but I strongly suspect this woman was in shock which is possibly why she immediately left the bar only to return once the horror of what had happened began to sink in. As for no one noticing that she was being raped, the woman may have been so traumatised by what was happening she was unable to fight off her attacker. Likewise the people around her may have been so drunk as to not really take in what was happening. If the attack took place in a toilet cubical then people might not have been able to see what was going on. Finally the victim identifies as a woman so have some respect and refer to her as a woman, not ‘delusional men in dresses’.
DCguy
@21stCenturyBear:
The comments are due to the fact that it was a single occupancy bathroom that the person unlocked and let another person into. If you are in a single occupancy bathroom and somebody bangs on the door people say “I’ll be out in a minute” you don’t let a person in and then go back and sit on the toilet and finish. That is where the confusion was setting in.

No, a woman CLAIMED to have been raped. If you really want to enter the 21st century you’ll recognize that, while most claims of rape are real, some are false.

Wow! Once again I am being told I am posting comments to quickly. Oh well, it is THEIR blog, huh?

While I’m willing to grant that this is true, I don’t think it would stand in any court of law because of its many inconsistencies and seeming contradictions. I hope that she heals, both physically and psychologically. And I hope that the Stonewall Bar puts up warning signs to prevent this sort of thing from happening.
Mark Pointon
Oh what in gay hell…
joeyty
@Chris: Warning signs ?? Like, “Don’t Allow Heavy Hispanic Males Into the Bathroom With You” ?

She was in a single-occupancy unisex bathroom and let someone in who just needed to wash his hands?!? People do that in New York City? This doesn’t sound kosher. Much less leaving for an hour before reporting it to anyone.
joeyty
@Will L: “She was in a single-occupancy unisex bathroom and let someone in who just needed to wash his hands?!? People do that in New York City?” No, we don’t ! Which, yes, is another hokey aspect to this tale.

None of us have enough reliable information to take a side on this issue. However, I am uncomfortable with the fact that all of the previous comments refer to the believability/un-believability of the “victim” but not any comments in reference to the supposed perpetrator. We need to be very sure of our facts before going about blaming any victim.

After it was PROVEN there was more to the story of the little queen who got her and her boyfriends ass whupped in Dallas Bar-B-Q I no longer rush to judgement in these cases. There are three ways to look at this; her side, his side and finally what actually happened.
GC1985
I will wait and see the results the investigation. Unlike other transphobic bigots on here, I will withhold judgment. We don’t know what happened here. As far as someone reporting rape right away, realize many rapes don’t get reported at all because of shame. I’m not about to play detective like some know it alls on here.
We certainly can’t jump to conclusions one way or another based on some vaguely written article.
Chris
@joeyty: How’s about: “Unfortunately, people have been assaulted while in the bathroom. Don’t let any stranger enter with you. And please keep the door locked until you leave.”
joeyty
@Chris: Fair enough.
Violent Rainbow
Who the hell lets a complete stranger in the bathroom while they’re using it? And did no one hear her screaming for help? I find a lot about this story very hard to believe.

The Trans have been fighting us for bragging rights to the lowlife watering hole, and after this latest installment, I say “Surrender, Friends of Dorothy!”
Give them the bar, Pride Day – heck, half of us don’t want to be associated with the annual screamer-and-skinfest anyway.
Let’s celebrate GAY Liberation. Why settle for being ONE letter in a ridiculous acronym that doesn’t even spell a word? Pick a new day, a new location. Choose some place where Sylvia Rivera isn’t rumored to have thrown the first brick, and where Transgenders don’t get raped in the bathroom.
While we’re at it, let’s take the George Segal sculptures with us from across the the street. I’m tired of hearing they’re not intersectional enough.
