Following a week of dispute and a media frenzy surrounding the issue of a prom court ballot, Issak Oliver Wolfe will be allowed to attend the dance with his girlfriend. Wolfe, who is a transgender student that identifies as a man, was listed under his former female name, on the prom queen side of the ballot. In spite of attempts to run for and be listed for prom king, the principal of Red Lion Area Senior High School in York County, Penn., insisted on listing him as female.
“For a transgendered person, it is degrading to have that, and I wasn’t even warned,” said 18-year-old Isaak.
Following the dispute with principal Mark Shue, the school district accused Wolfe’s girlfriend of libel for posting the story to Facebook and later attempted to ban her from the high school dance. Soon after, the American Civil Liberties Union got involved, in support of Wolfe and his girlfriend.
On Friday, it was reported that the school district agreed to let Wolfe and his girlfriend attend the prom but there was no clarity on the prom ballot and graduation, which became another area of dispute. It remains to be seen if the school will allow him to wear the male cap and gown and whether or not Wolfe’s male name will be read during the ceremony.

Thankfully, the ACLU is involved. All school districts seem to see the “light” when they become involved. After the brouhaha, the school district almost always loses heaps of money, or the bonding/insurance company that insures them, does. In the end, the student(s) win. It’s a hoot!
oilburner
This is so gross no one is born in the wrong body that’s just an excuse for deviant behavior
Alex
@oilburner:
Wait, did you purposely come to an LGBT site, created an account just to post and bash the LGBT community… really? really? get a life you stupid loser
hyhybt
What I’d really like to know is what, precisely, the school claimed was libelous.
@Alex: Sadly, many people who have no problem with, or even fit into, the LGB part are totally disgusting in their views towards the Ts.
Eric Auerbach
I always knew Mark Indelicato was a chick.
Dakotahgeo
@oilburner: Lolol. “oilburner” denotes the era in which you lived (or are living) in. Time to move up and get educated. Rip Van Winkle has nothing on you!
Dakotahgeo
@Alex: Please don’t give oilburner a bad time. What education he got was probably done by candlelight. Some people are just born for our entertainment.
Becky Sharp
@Eric Auerbach: You are sickening. QUEERTY, please delete this comment!
Dakotahgeo
@Becky Sharp: I just flagged him… there is a ‘flag’ button to the right of ‘reply.’ Sorry I missed this poor excuse of a comment.
Merv
Huh? It looks like Eric was using a joke to point out that this student resembles Marc Indelicato. Is it really worth getting worked up about?
Dakotahgeo
@Merv: First, who the heck is Marc Indelicato? and second… who cares?!?
Merv
@Dakotahgeo: Marc Indelicato is the actor who played the gay younger brother of Betty on the TV show Ugly Betty.
Dakotahgeo
@Merv: Aha! Thank you! Not a day goes by that I don’t learn something new. I owe you one! 🙂
Dixie Rect
Why is he(?) so sad here? The prom is fun!
Good times!
Dixie Rect
I forgot to mention – if he is a he, and she is a she, then they are heterosexual, yes?
So,why is this article on a G/L news (and I use the term ‘news’ lightly) blog?
More reason for T to be its own stand alone category, with their own blog.
ak
@Dixie Rect: Trans* people basically are. I can’t tell you how many ignorant or down right phobic comments I have found on this site and other sites aimed at the queer population. Not every Trans* person is heterosexual. Also, as this young man is legally female, he cannot get married until he has his legal gender changed as the state views him as heterosexual.
Now, the trans* community has pushed for gay rights right along side the gays. Why is it that we cannot get that support returned? After all, it’s all biology.
