Travel Channel’s “Hotel Impossible” Spotlights LGBT Resort In Maui

The Maui Sunseeker’s upgraded sun deck

Hotel Impossible on the Travel Channel is a bit like Gordon Ramsey’s Kitchen Nightmare, only with less swearing.

Each episode veteran hotelier Anthony Melchiorri checks into a struggling accommodation and helps the owners bring it back to top form.

And on December 17 at 10pm, the Maui Sunseeker, an LGBT-interest resort gets Melchiorri’s expert aide,

The Sunseeker is an adults-only property located on the shores of Kihei in Maui. Visitors have long raved about the staff, views and amenities but the recession has meant fewer and fewer guests.

Melchiorri figured out ways to improve the marketing plan, and drafted designer Blanche Garcia to upgrade the rooftop deck. “It was eye opening for all involved,” laughs owner Chuck Spence, “For us, from a business perspective, and for the cast when they discovered the clothing-optional hot tub.”

Spence is happy with the results. “I wish I would have hired Anthony years ago just to get an outside expert opinion, even in the successful years,” he told Maui Now.

And business is already picking up, even though the episode hasn’t aired yet. “That speaks volumes to the quality of Anthony’s advice versus [just] being featured in a television program,” says Spence.
