For our first #FabulousFriday post, and our second post in our new Drag Queen Style Guide series, we’re starting with a basic drag queen essential: how to make hip pads and butt pads.Every week, we’ll be bringing you an all new #FabulousFriday post in which we share tips, tricks and tutorials about drag queen costuming!
Hip and butt pads are essential to helping complete the illusion of femininity. Most men have a narrower waist than women do, so adding pads padding to create the illusion of a curvy body can really take a look to another level.
While there are several videos tutorial on how to make hip and butt pads, the tutorial by Petrilude is one of our favorites! Petrilude, also known as Los Angeles-based drag queen Misty Maven, is a fierce makeup artist and YouTube sensation.
Watch the great video below for the step-by-step tutorial on how to create your very own hip pads and but pads!
How about we take this to the next level?
Our newsletter is like a refreshing cocktail (or mocktail) of LGBTQ+ entertainment and pop culture, served up with a side of eye-candy.
What you need to make hip pads and butt pads:
- Sewing measuring tape
- Paper and pen/pencil for taking notes of measurements
- Newspaper
- Scissors
- Felt-tip marker or marking pen
- High-density foam (2-3 inches / 5-7.5 cm thick)
- An electric knife (preferred) or knife
Pro Tip: When putting on your hip pads, using multiple pairs of nylons or dance tights will help to smooth the edges and bumps of the pads.
