Yesterday, Queerty broke the news that former GOP Congressman Aaron Schock was purportedly photographed at Coachella hanging out with a bunch of shirtless white gays and making out with a dude whilst reaching his hand down the guy’s pants.

As you may recall, while serving as the United States Representative for Illinois’ 18th congressional district from 2009 until 2015, Schock’s voting record read like the CliffsNotes of the Religious Right’s antigay playbook.

Pointing out all of the white bashing that is accompanying this story doesn’t mean we are trying to turn him into a victim of reverse racism. It just means that we see a lot of completely unnecessary pot shots at white gay men that have nothing to do with this one man being a horrible person.
You all seem to understand that we shouldn’t condemn the entire black race by pointing out things that certain black people do as representations of the entire race. This article is about the Twitter responses to story. One of those responses actually says “gay culture is white supremacy”, and that’s not the only one that seems white people. It’s quite legitimate to respond to that.
Also? Conservative does not mean white. If we are being so ridiculous/sensitive/whatever you want to call it, why are you deliberately trying to make it seem like we are complaining about a completely different issue? That’s no accident, it’s a tactic people use all the time when they don’t have a legitimate response. Subtly change the subject and hope nobody notices. There’s actually a name for that, it’s called the irrelevant conclusion fallacy.
And finally, there is nothing wrong with discussing more than one angle of a story. It’s quite possible to think both that Aaron is a horrible human meeting and that a lot of people are painting white gays as horrible people for absolutely no reason. Maybe you’re incapable of that kind of multitasking, but plenty of us can do it just fine.

My country has its many issues with racism, when I’m among some canadians and racism rears its ugly ahead, they hear from me. The focus on race and skin colour is extremely rare to be heard talked about in the Canadian media, let alone major political figures. Last time I heard it it was when our former prime minister used dog whistle terms and was promptly voted out of office.

The hypocrisy of this site constantly sh*tting on “white gays” while 70% of its articles is about “white gays” is just too easy see through. However, I do agree that many “white gays” (especially closeted ones) do feel greater allegiance to their race and feel the utmost need to appease their race. But honestly, I’ll take that over the “fake woke” and social media cliches we keep seeing. And yes, those dudes hanging out with him should be very ashamed. But getting on social media is the biggest of priorities for many. Furthermore, let’s not act as if an anti-gay black politician wouldn’t have been able to find a bunch of black gays to hang out with him.
