Bruno Gagliasso and Joao Vicente de Castro, two of Brazil’s most famous actors, shared a rather long and by the looks of it, wet, kiss on stage at the Brazilian GQ Men of the Year Awards in Rio de Janeiro.
The straight-identifying celebrities say they wanted to make a stand against homophobia and machismo, showing that it’s OK for guys to be openly affectionate towards one another.
Gagliasso posted a photo of the kiss to his Instagram, dedicating the smooch to all the “macho card-carriers, hypocritical and prejudiced.”
Neither Gagliasso or Vicente had their Man Cards revoked after exiting the stage, so we’re calling it a success.
How about we take this to the next level?
Our newsletter is like a refreshing cocktail (or mocktail) of LGBTQ+ entertainment and pop culture, served up with a side of eye-candy.
Gagliasso has been a long-time supporter of LGBTQ rights, and has played a gay character on a popular Brazilian soap. In the past he’s spoken out against the machismo culture that spreads the idea that being anything other than straight devalues one’s “manliness.”

Kudos to them!
It would be great to see a world where PDAs amongst gay guys didn’t bat an eyelid. We have a long way to go, but guys like these two, showing that straight guys can be publicly affectionate towards eachother, is a step in the right direction….
….oh and that video is definitely one for the bank!
Masc Pride
It’s far more likely that people will just assume they’re secretly gay or bi. Straight men are never going to walk around kissing each other, and they don’t need to either. This was/is pointless.
Ditamo
Bruno Gagliasso is a pretty good actor, I’ve seen quite a few soap operas he has been in, especially one where he plays a rich kid that becomes schizophrenic but his family doesn’t accept it and doesn’t want to give him medical help because they don’t want people from the outside knowing that he has a problem. Plus his light blue eyes are so beautiful. I’ve never seen the other guy though, but its cool what they did. There is still alot of homophobia in Brasil, but its getting better as well.
Captain Obvious
Will they also do something to speak on the rampant and deadly colorism in Brazil too?
Mack
If the straights don’t like the gay’s PDA, then they shouldn’t look. I don’t like to see straights doing it so I turn my head.
I believe the problem in the Spanish community is greatly in part because of the Catholic Church and their backwards teaching.
Chris
@Mack: And that is why Spain, with the Catholic Church and its backwards teachings, got gay marriage years before the first U.S. state got it, let alone the Supreme Court decision came through.
Ditamo
@Mack: Adding to what Chris said, Brazil is neither Spain nor is it part of the Spanish community. Learn some geography and anthropology…
Kangol
@Captain Obvious: Nope. If you ever check out the excellent Black Women of Brazil blog, you’ll see that Afrobrazilians, who now form the majority (53% by self-identification) of the population face all kinds of economic, political and social challenges, mirroring what black people in the US face, but one huge difference is that in the US, you do see far more black people and people of color in general on TV and in films these days. Brazilian TV remains horribly backwards on this account.
Good for them. The “straight-identifying” bit in the write-up was unnecessary, really.
zaratros
@Mack: do not speak Spanish in Brazil, study a little more
zaratros
@Chris: do not speak Spanish in Brazil, study a little more, and Brazil is not linked to any Spanish culture, same sex marriage was approved by the Supreme Court Brazilian years earlier than in the USA, the problem is homophobia, macho culture , besides the religion was once Catholic, now this in the hands of evangelicals who are basing in the evangelicals of south of the USA.
