GOP DEATH WATCH

TX Lawmaker Wants To Punish Schools For Supporting Gay Teachers

Drew SpringerA Republican lawmaker in Texas has sponsored a bill that would punish schools for supporting LGBT teachers and staffers.

State representative Drew Springer has drafted HB 1568, which would cut 7.5% of a school district’s healthcare budget if it offers domestic-partner benefits to employees.

A school district in Pflugerville, Texas, announced last fall that would offer healthcare to the same-sex partners of district employees, the first in Texas to do so.

“Our tax dollars are for educating kids, not for enacting policies that attempt to get the state to recognize homosexual relationships,” Springer announced in a press release. “To think Pflugerville has sued the state for more funding, while at the same time bankrolling a lifestyle most Texans do not agree with is quite disturbing to me.”

Another Texas GOP slimeball, Rep. Matt Krause, has introduced a bill to cut state funding for universities that don’t allow religious student groups to discriminate based on race, gender, and sexual orientation.

So basically, the Republicans don’t want taxpayers money to support ideology people disagree with, unless its their ideology.
