Edie and David Delorme, who both own a bakery in the East Texas city of Longview, gained instant notoriety when they refused Ben Valencia and Luis Marmolejo as customers, insisting that they don’t make cakes for “homosexual marriages” due to their religious faith.
Now, they’re insisting that someone called and threatened to hurt their 17-year-old son.
“Our son got a call,” Edie Dolorme told TheBlaze, “where they threatened to burn our house down and violate him with a broken beer bottle. That was probably the worst.”
They say that, out of fear for her well-being, they’ve sent their daughter to live with relatives.
How about we take this to the next level?
Our newsletter is like a refreshing cocktail (or mocktail) of LGBTQ+ entertainment and pop culture, served up with a side of eye-candy.
No mention of whether they bothered to actually call the police.

Leave the son alone (assuming it really happened). The kids are often totally different (now or later) from the parents. Separate entities.
Victor Barry
Shoe’s on the other foot. Not so fun. Still, it’s not right to threaten people.
1EqualityUSA
If you have a business catering to the public sector, your hatred must be left at the threshold. Neither can you say you will not serve Jews, Muslims, or any other poor sap you dream of hating. You’ll make cakes for divorcees, yet Christ actually spoke against divorce. Christ said nary a word about us the entire 33 years He graced our planet. You’re using the Bible to justify and foster the hatred you hold. This has no place in civic businesses. Kevin Swanson loves you, however.
Alexis Barros
I see a long pattern of these bigots always saying their being threatened etc. Somehow I have a hard time believing all of it. They probably just want start a GoFundMe page.
Brian JC Kneeland
You reap what you sow!
John Malin
The bigoted bimbo most likely needs money, her baked goods are so bad people buy the for their bosses!
joeyty
@1EqualityUSA: If you’re catering to the public you should have to bake away for a ku klux klan rally if they ask you to, too. Just bite your tongue and do it. But, again, people should never pick on the children (or other family members) for the parents’ actions.
Aero Luxe Mendoza
good gay ppl deal with this type of torment everyday…for do nothing more than acting on our own beliefs…#karma
1EqualityUSA
I do not believe her. Hateful people inflame things to their own bent. Ku Klux Klan are not born that way, they’re taught to hate by parents who were taught to hate, just as Trump’s dad taught his sons to hate, and he likely passes on his small-minded hate to his brood.
1EqualityUSA
joeyty, you sure defend odd balls.
joeyty
@1EqualityUSA: I believe her claims might be true (seeing the threats gays have made towards others in the past) but without any evidence I don’t know. People lie about hate crimes and threats all the time too.
joeyty
@1EqualityUSA: Uh….how do you know her son is an oddball ? Do you realize how different parents and children can be ?
Tony Chaplinski
ain’t buying it, and with faux news involved, I definately ain’t buying it
John Andrew K. Carver
What’s the old saying, from the bible no less, “as you sow, so shall you reap?” You spread hate so don’t be surprised when you get it back.
1EqualityUSA
Are you really THAT different from your parents, joeyty?
joeyty
@1EqualityUSA: Totally ! And I despise the idiots.
1EqualityUSA
I have to go back to the dancing bricklayer to get back in a good mood. I’m sorry you were put in the position of despising anyone, more so, parents. We, at least, live in a country where free speech and ideas can be spoken of in public. I want to go finish the living room. My house and yard kicks ass this week! Take care, joeyty.
joeyty
@1EqualityUSA: Why ? No skin off my nose. I guess it’s nice if people can be friends with parents (or brothers and sisters) but I’m in good historical company by being so different from (and hating) my parents.
1EqualityUSA
business owners are to follow laws that ban discrimination in the public sector. Got’s to go, baby. Eats some fruit, pet a cat, enjoy your day, joeyty

@1EqualityUSA: Wait til Muslim bakers have to do gay weddings. oh boy..
Dwight G Grogan
You can’t believe this type of hype from a right wing conservative christian, they all lie through their teeth to push their hate agenda. Wonder how many times her son has bullied gay kids at school??
Kathryn Henry
Well, this is what happens once support becomes more mainstream. Asshats who would make these kinds of threats can support this cause also and so they do what others wouldn’t do– continue to be asshats.
joeyty
The title of this article should be “Ugly Threats ALLEGEDLY Made..” Why is Queerty so sloppy that way ? The same as when somebody claims he was gaybashed, Queerty always reports it without the “allegedly” or “claims”.
Chris Duffy
We need to get over the Frosting Wars.
GayEGO
Well, I have been out since 1960 and I have never known any gay guys who would be so horrible as to threaten straights. I have known homophobic individuals to make false claims.
joeyty
@GayEGO: I’ve known gays to threaten straights with mutilation. We have our devils too.
AtticusBennett
if it actually happened they’ll file a police report, recover phone records, and press charges.
if it didn’t actually happen they’ll just keep talking about it, make the chat-show rounds for Jeebus and ask for more donations.
GC1985
@joeyty: You constantly show how stupid you are time and time again.
This little accusation was not reported to the authorities. No report was filed. There is little to no credibility in the claim. It sounds highly exaggerated. It seems to me the spotlight is moving away from them so they need to try to reclaim it. Joeyty is naive and believes everything people say.
joeyty
@GC1985: I guesss you don’t know how to read.
DCguy
This did not happen. As was the case with similar other claims, the bigots claimed to have been threatened, and yet could never produce the e-mails, letters and phone records never backed them up.
This is the same thing. Sorry but if you really got a threat against your child or a threat to burn down your house you would report it.
No report, this is just the bigots attacking others and claiming that they are victims.
Luis H. Lopez
We can’t fight hate with Hate but we can call for boycott of the state .

maybe “gay friendly” in search next time and are bakers closeted self loathing gays in reality. “the lady doth protest too much”
yaletownman
The LGBT community must condemn such things as this. If we don’t we allow ourselves to be brought down to our enemies level and just help them further justify how they feel about us and what they say about us. Aside from that it is just plain wrong to threaten someone’s children like this just because the parents have chosen to be bigots. We are better than this and we don’t need to become like the people we have stood against.
Mr-DJ
First of all, don’t ‘dish it’ unless you can ‘take it’.
Secondly, you HAD equal rights, and things only changed because you wanted to deny equal rights to others.
scotshot
@joeyty: Refusing to bake a cake for a group like the KKK is legal, apples to oranges.
scotshot
@joeyty: Muslim bakers are smart. The only color they see is green and gay money is just like str8 money – it all spends.
Michael Spike Vincent
No proof besides her saying her son got a call. I’m assuming she is trying to get sympathy…soon she’ll have a Go Fund Me page set up to cash in
Juanjo
No one should be calling and threatening anyone. That is wrong – no threats to violate teenagers, no threats to burn down houses and no violence to the business.
GC1985
@joeyty: You are illiterate and you don’t know what you are saying. Give it a rest kid.
Paco
I want to see proof of the threats made to their son. Their word isn’t good enough.
@yaletownman:
Oh it’s ok if we are the ones doing it, apparently. I question their claims however.
TampaZeke
ALLEGED!
My bet is that this never happened. It’s part of the “Christian persecution” myth promotion.
Juanjo
@joeyty:
Joey dear – there is a well known set of logical fallacies known as tu quoque and strawman. Your comment on Muslim bakers is an excellent example. But since you bring it up, consider the fact that in San Francisco where I live there are numerous mom & pop stores here owned by Muslim immigrants. They sell alcohol, sell sandwiches made with ham and are quite happy to sell to gay people. They understand that under their religion they are not allowed to drink alcohol or eat ham but others can do so. Ditto same sex marriages.
They are not hypocritical fanatics like this Texas baker. Their own religion says that they are acting incorrectly. See 1 Corinthians 5:9-13
“I wrote to you in my letter not to associate with sexually immoral people, not at all meaning the people of this world who are immoral, or the greedy and swindlers, or idolaters. In that case you would have to leave this world. But now I am writing to you that you must not associate with anyone who claims to be a brother or sister but is sexually immoral or greedy, an idolater or slanderer, a drunkard or swindler. Do not even eat with such people.
What business is it of mine to judge those outside the church? Are you not to judge those inside? God will judge those outside.”
Stache
@Chris Duffy: Even though their wrong I have to agree with you. Enough of demanding they bake their shitty hate cakes or sell their crappy flowers. They’re only using this as ammunition to get something much bigger like religious bigotry laws.
Invert
@yaletownman: well, quick, call up the Bureau of LGBTIQ Communications and demand they issue some kind of edict demanding LGBTQI cardholders immediately refrain from using the same evil tactics as our oppressors. It’s upsetting them, poor dears.
It must be like, oh I don’t know, the daily taunts, insults, threats, violence, sexual assaults, or threat (or reality) of murder that LGBTIQ people have to deal with. We should be more compassionate of the feelings of the privileged who have the right to discriminate enshrined in law and enforced by a majority willing to deny rights to minorities or go to the extent of outright, full scale murder to enforce their beliefs. Because they deserve the respect and tolerance they extend to us, right?
DCguy
@joeyty:
joeytv was on another post defending the gay basher in Philedelphia, basically saying that gays were the attackers and that often times people like her were victims of false charges etc…
And now here he is saying the same thing, defending the bigots as victims and painting LGBTs as the bullies.
You anti-gay trolls are very easy to spot.
Dwight G Grogan
So, does she turn away, non virgins getting a wedding cake? Second Marriages? People wearing clothes of different cloths? People with tattoos? ETC….. So how deeply is this religious belief. OH that’s right. IT”S JUST BIGOTED HATE!
joeyty
@DCguy: Link to my saying any of that, Fibbsy.
joeyty
@Juanjo: Cool, if you’re being truthful. You do know of Muslims in San Francsco who sell wedding cakes for gay couples ?
joeyty
@Invert: But it’s not fair to threaten their son with rape and mutilation for what his parents did. Again, I bring up the Kentucky and Duke lacrosse incidents as examples that that DOES happen. But I’m not saying it definitely happened in this case. The bakers could very well be lying like so many do over hate crimes, bashings, threats.
joeyty
Always hold out for proof with these types of claims. Don’t forget this case, a definitive example : http://www.queerty.com/utah-man-is-allegedly-knocked-out-almost-force-fed-bleach-and-wakes-to-find-die-fag-carved-into-his-arms-20150616
Paco
@Stache: And nothing is stopping them from lovingly spitting huge wads of mucous into the cakes they were forced to bake. Do we really want cakes from people that hate us and wish us dead? Thanks for bringing the spotlight to the bigot bakers, but I certainly hope no one wants to eat anything these bigots were forced to make.
joeyty
@Paco: (seriously ; it’s like having a waiter who hates you. How do you know what he put in the food ?)
LubbockGayMale
Oh, my, someone alleges the big bad gay gang is threatening to convert/attack her son. Sorry, but why does Queerty.com publish this junk?
Invert
@joeyty: I’m not advocating threats or violence against anyone. I’m just saying don’t apply double standards of behaviour. If straights can employ these horrible tactics against gay people- and they DO- then they shouldn’t be surprised that they get their same success strategies used against them.
joeyty
@Invert: Actually, I don’t think anyone should threaten anybody’s kids at all.
joeyty
@LubbockGayMale: No, she alleges they threatened to mutilate the boy with glass (broken bottle). But…no evidence.
GC1985
@joeyty: No police report… No complaint filed… Nothing. There is absolutely zero evidence to suggest their son was ever threatened. stop trying to make things up as you go along.
GC1985
@joeyty: Many hate crimes actually go unreported. Please don’t compare apples and oranges. You just look more and more ignorant. You belittle gay people enough on here. Bugger off.
David Pickersgill
Ugly Imaginery threats eh?
joeyty
@GC1985: shaddup
Invert
@joeyty: yeah, like the whole “I believe in ‘death to gays’ thing in the bible”. No threats there, dimwit.
joeyty
@Invert: It also says in the Bible that the children shall not be blamed for the sins of the fathers. In the New Testament somewhere, I think. I’m no Bible expert, but that stuck with me because it’s one of the few Bible things that made sense to me. But you, inverted dimwit, probably believe family members inherit their guilt through DNA or something. Why not put the children of criminals in prison, too ?
Invert
@joeyty: you’re reaching, you hysterical little girl.
joeyty
@Invert: I’m a beautiful little girl who’ll one day be a grand lady. And I don’t hold kids responsible for the wrongs of their parents.
Jesus Malverde
Why should I believe this hateful woman when there is no police report?
DCguy
@joeyty:
joyeytv, your anti-gay obsession is showing, you have posted massive amounts of postings here and in the Katryn Knott article, and in every single one you keep mentioning gays as bullies and the bigots as victims.
If you want to try to hide the fact that you are an anti-gay troll you need to stop getting so hysterical and freaking out. You need to be much more subtle in your hatred and bigotry.
Here is an idea, try using coded language and being coy about it like the GOP establishment, instead of blasting out your defense and support of gay bashers and bigots, because right now you’re less Paul Ryan and more Donald Trump.
joeyty
@DCguy: And I just gave you an elegant high-heeled kick to the face. Werk !!
scotshot
@joeyty: Guilt, of course is not inherited. The child, though, may have been indoctrinated with his parents bigotry and be espousing it to the public. Don’t forget the Duggar family and the family of Fred Phelps Westboro Baptist Church. That said, I don’t agree that commenters here should be threatened with violence and hate speech. You have been flagged for doing so which violates Queerty’s terms of service
joeyty
@scotshot: Make sure you flag the others espousing rape and arson.
scotshot
I don’t take orders from you.
joeyty
@scotshot: BTW : The child MIGHT have been taught the same beliefs as his parents and accepted them as his own. Or……completely the opposite, as many healthy people go a completely different route either purposefully (just to reject their parents) or naturally. What is so hard to understand about that ?
scotshot
@joeyty:
Troll.
scotshot
@joeyty:
Troll..
joeyty
@scotshot: I order you. Unless you think rape and mutilation is acceptable. Especially on the Kathryn Knott thread.
joeyty
@scotshot: How about the gay children of homophobic parents. Do you think they deserve being threatened with rape by broken bottle ?
1EqualityUSA
joeyty,
Deuteronomy 24:16 “The fathers shall not be put to death for the children, nor shall the children be put to death by the fathers: every man shall be put to death by his own sin.”
Adumbrating responsibility to individuals, with emphasis on justice. See Ezek 18:2
1EqualityUSA
read “for the fathers, hahaha, not “by” fathers.
joeyty
@1EqualityUSA: Thank you. I think (again I’m no expert) that that was considered sort of revolutionary for the time, because the ancient world went a lot by family guilt, curses, inherited shame, etc.
GC1985
Oh my goodness… Is this joey buffoon still flapping his gums and hammering away at the keyboard? Don’t let your dentures fall out.
1EqualityUSA
The deeper meaning my be that the misbehavior in an unhealthy parent sends the brood on a trajectory that is difficult to surmount, despite the child’s wish to do so. The decision-making is forever altered by how this child’s brain had been informed of the world, by parents less skilled.
1EqualityUSA
individual responsibility is a recurring theme in this old testament book.

I have flagged joeytys comments as he is spreading violent threats and malicious abuse towards others. I advise people do the same.

Irony is a bitch, isn’t it? You want to be treated equally? So does everyone else. Start being nice to everyone and maybe it’ll happen to you too. (oh, and your govt-granted license to run a business means that you can’t discriminate against people. Period.)

I think it’s the way the message is delivered. My friend wants to get married, he approached 5 resorts. 2 politely declined stating religous beliefs and my friend was okay with that. It was another resort who declined by reciting bible verses which was rude enough. 2 others accepted and he’s now preparing for his wedding. (more like exchange of vows)
Personally, an establishment can decline service knowing that they can receive negative publicity.
Who can’t decline are those giving government service, healthcare, safety, basic necessities like food (for sustenance) , water and medications. (A cake is hardly a necessity)
If an establishment politely declined, there’s no need for lawsuits, violence and threats. However feel free to give a review or tell friends in an objective manner.
If the threats to the teenager happened, it’s embarrasing because as a minority it could affect perception of people to gays.
If it’s a hoax or someone was pretending and scared off the teen, then hopefully they’ll get justice.
1EqualityUSA
i43neile, and if they decide jews killed jesus and they no longer want to sell to them? When does it end. You’re wrong about businesses in the public sector.
joeyty
@1EqualityUSA: Yeah, but you know how many religious people pick and choose which rules to follow (not all, but..) One has to decide if it’s worth the hassle to go through bringing publicity and legal action against them, etc., for some kind of greater-good-outcome that might very well just come about naturally (with changing societal attitudes and good business sense).

Dave Downunder
Religious groups don’t like the changes that are happening. They want to continue discriminating against us without legal consequence so they are not above making up stories to support their views, we have seen it before.
The most troubling part is that they honestly feel they are justified in their lies because they feel they are doing gods work. It is not an argument you can ever win when you are dealing with deluded zealots.
GC1985
@i43neile: You have no understanding of the way the law works. Those resorts that declined merely because of their sexual orientation violated the law. You are not objective and have your head in the clouds. A business is required to follow the laws. Your argument was basically one used by segregationists. It didn’t make any sense then and isn’t now.
DCguy
And again, every time some bigot doesn’t want to serve people and gets called out on it, they claim that threats were made against them…..
Except they never are able to produce any e-mails, they never have any proof, and they haven’t called the police.
Just bigots trying to pretend they’re victims.
1EqualityUSA
DCguy, Until they emit odors of fear, quantifiable gland-action, I will not believe them. They emit odors of hatred, most foul.
Billysees
@Juanjo:
” What business is it of mine to judge those outside the church? You’re only supposed to judge those inside the church. God will judge those outside. ” Slightly paraphrased by me.
Good comment and reminder. I hadn’t read it that way before —
‘God will judge those outside the church community’….1 Corinthians 5:13
There’s still a problem with what constitutes immorality. Ones morals are personally determined, with the help of their beliefs of course, and rarely deviate far from church teachings. NT biblical values, which are often quite different, allow a good amount of wiggle room from rigid doctrines. Unless church folk pry into the life of its members, no such knowledge about them would be known. What people don’t know or what is not anyone’s business will not harm them or their church.
Here’s something to keep in mind when reading Paul’s writings —
Paul, who authored most of the NT and most of the negativity about homosexuality, makes these very revealing statements about his own knowledge and understanding —
1. …our knowledge is partial and incomplete…
2. …we see things imperfectly…
3. All that I know now is partial and incomplete…
(1 Corinthians 13:9,12)
Those are excellent examples that ‘teach us’ that Paul’s writings are, or can be, too partial, too incomplete and too imperfect to be meaningful and useful for everybody in every situation.
You may believe there’s nothing wrong with what you are doing, so you can keep it between yourself and God if you want…
…Blessed are those who don’t condemn themselves for doing or being something they have decided is best for themselves….Romans 14:22
All of those are worthy attitudes to have and are good and easy to follow.
