Unhinged ‘Drag Race’ Judge Lucian Paine Launches GoFundMe For New Album, Raises $5

2016 has been unkind to many, and (former?) RuPaul’s Drag Race judge Lucien Piane is certainly not immune. Boy, has he been dragged through the mud lately.

But while most who have brushed up against hardship or tragedy this year were merely passive bystanders of life’s merciless rollercoaster ride, Piane’s 2016 saga played out a little differently.

Namely, to the chorus to this Raidohead song. If you’re in no mood for mid-90s grunge nostalgia (totally understandable), we’ll paraphrase: He did it to himself.

First came the Clinton bashing and vague support of Donald Trump‘s campaign for president:

Then he doubled down on the conspiracy talk, and copy-pasted his way at a fervent call to action:

This was mostly just annoying. The election wast just a few days out, and we didn’t need voices like his bubbling to the surface. But there it was anyways.

After the election, when you might think he’d take a hint and scuttle back his rhetoric, he decided to take the opposite approach, publicly invoking his right to use the “n” word in a series of WTF posts:

Yikes. Just yikes.

So what’s Lucien up to these days, you surely aren’t asking but we’re about to tell you anyhow?

He’s trying to get back into the studio so he can hammer out these (and who knows how many more!) creative visions into a new album.

Oh, and he’d like your money to meet this goal.

Lucian has set up a GoFundMe page titled simply “Lucien album.”

“I wanna make a bomb ass album,” he writes.  “The money is going to be to hire an orchestra, orchestrator, copyists, producers, mixing, mastering and any other misc expenses.”

“Thanks for your help. I guarantee you it will be amazing,” he assures us. There’s someone else who’s been promising to make everything “amazing” lately, but we won’t go into that here.

So how’s the effort faring?

Well, two days ago someone named Jay Tyler donated $5. That was awfully nice of you, Jay.

Next — oh. Yeah, actually it’s just Jay’s $5 in the pot — just a hair shy of the $120k goal. (EDIT: We took another look, and the total now is $15. Almost there!)

The comments section offers some insight into how many are interpreting Piane’s fundraising efforts:

“This campaign should be reported. This is beyond bogus! Please get some professional mental health,” writes Lochary Skidmore Davenport.

“Didn’t Rebecca Black do ‘Friday’ for a LOT less money? If you had talent. You would not need a ‘GoFuckYourself’ page,” reasons Mark Anthony Vitelli.

And then perhaps the most apropos plea, made by Wm Daddycub:

“You really need to use the money to get some help with your mental health and/or substance abuse problem. Your Twitter rants prove that you aren’t in your right mind. When you start a GoFundMe to be institutionalized, I’ll be glad to donate.”
