Usher files for divorce from wife one year after gay sex herpes scandal

All good things must come to an end.

On Friday, Usher officially filed for divorce from his wife, Grace Miguel. The filing comes after just two years of marriage and one year after the 40-year-old R&B hitmaker was accused of exposing a man to the herpes virus during a sexual encounter.

In August 2017, the singer was slapped with a $20 million lawsuit by three people–one man and two women–who all claimed he exposed them to herpes during three separate sexual encounters several years earlier.

The man in the lawsuit, known only as John Doe, claimed he and Usher hooked up at a Los Angeles spa in 2012.

In June 2018, the man filed a motion with the court compelling the singer to submit details about his medical history, as well as any information regarding possible settlements in the past.

The request has since been withdrawn.

Whether or not the gay sex herpes scandal is what led to Usher’s divorce is unknown, but AOL News reports:

According to legal documents obtained by The Blast, Usher, 40, and Miguel, 49, separated on December 24, 2017, and the two reached a confidential settlement agreement.

Usher proposed to Miguel in January 2015. They quietly eloped that September before going on a romantic honeymoon in Havana, Cuba. They announced to Us exclusively this March that they had broken up.

Usher has repeatedly denied allegations that he gave anyone herpes. The $20 million lawsuit was eventually dropped after one of the accusers was caught on tape admitting she had lied about having unprotected sex with the singer.
