VIDEO: Ressurrecting some of Elton John’s most iconic (and gayest) looks for ‘Rocketman’

Further trumpeting the flamboyant fabulousity of Rocketman, Paramount has released a new featurette highlighting the recreated costumes of the upcoming Elton John biopic.

Rocketman tells the story of the rise of the rock icon from child piano prodigy to international sensation, as well as his battles with addiction and acceptance of his sexuality. Dexter Fletcher, the unbilled co-director of Bohemian Rhapsody directs a cast that stars Taron Egerton as Elton John, along with Jamie Bell, Richard Madden and Bryce Dallas Howard. Elton John and husband David Furnish produce.

Egerton, Fletcher, Furnish and Elton himself have all assured concerned viewers that Rocketman will tell John’s story with authenticity, and not soft pedal his sexuality or his personal struggles.  The new featurette focuses on recreating John’s notoriously flamboyant costumes.

“I found the process of inhabiting Elton John and his wardrobe incredibly liberating,” Egerton says of the film’s wardrobe. The production required more than 50 pairs of shoes and 50 pairs of glasses for Egerton alone.

Both cast and crew have said Rocketman will take an unusual approach to the life of Elton John, employing surreal and fantastic images akin to an old-style Hollywood musical set to John’s catalog of hit tunes.

Rocketman opens in cinemas May 31.
