It’s Spirit Day, when millions of LGBT people and their allies don purple in solidarity with young LGBT kids. Participants include members of the NBA, WNBA, NHL, NFL, NASCAR and Major League Baseball, as well as Ricky Martin, Dianna Agron, Perez Hilton, Bernadette Peters, Ian McKellen, Rita Moreno, Wendy Williams, George Takei, the “Fabulous Las Vegas” sign and the New York Stock Exchange. (Spirit Day Ambassador Katy Butler even asked Barack Obama and Mitt Romney to join in)
As you can see, Queerty has changed color for the occasion—Have you? Send your Spirit Day photos to [email protected] and we’ll publish them!
Below, Spirit Day founder Brittany McMillan discusses the campaign at the 2012 GLAAD Media Awards in August.

What about the little old ladies who always wear lavender purple, do they count?

The purple still looks much better than this site’s usual orange. You still should consider keeping it year-round.
Kit McCollum
I agree with hyhybt. The purple is MUCH BETTER than the orange. If you’re smart, you’ll keep it. (And no, I don’t expect you are that smart.)

I can think of other possible reasons they might stick with orange (seven years or so of brand identity, perhaps), but “it looks better than the purple we put up once a year” isn’t among them.

@Kit McCollum: HONEY, no-one is THAT smart. Just read the comments section.
