The Oprah interview made me wretch….I thought she was going to kneel down an lick Whitney’s coochie toward the end. “The Voice,” Oprah kept saying, indicating it was a direct gift from Got the Father Almighty.
And who’s not sick of the “poor me, I was such a big star I couldn’t even leave my six hundred square foot house to drive to the Piggly Wiggly in my new Bentley, I was so miserable that I just had to turn to the pipe” crap. Excuse me while I shed a tear for you and your squillions and the fact that you’ve enjoyed every opportunity and success imaginable. She’s a narcissist of the highest order, a diva in all the worst ways. Her “Finally I love ME…ME….ME!” made me laugh out loud.
And Miz Thang was all about “the Lord saved me”, mostly speaking in “Jesus loves me, this I know” sound bites. She has always been a part of these weird fundamentalist churches, which I seriously doubt are our friends.
So, besides the fact that she’s a pretty hot drag queen, why are we supporting her? And, sorry, but the album feels totally stale, nothing new and exciting there.
Sorry, but I honestly think Madonna’s 2009 “Celebration” is much better.
First of all, Madonna’s 2009 “Celebration” is more gay-themed and gay-oriented. Not to mention it features the Trance God Paul Oakenfold… and all the gay bars and nightclubs are always playing it since its debut.
But Whitney’s video is nice…. geared for more straight people.
If you watch Madonna’s “celebration” you’ll see why Madonna is a Gay icon.
Neither Whitney Houston, Tina Turner, Britney Spears or Janet Jackson can do half of what Madonna does at age 50+. That’s why Madonna is special because she’s always able to re-invent herself in the public image and sends out catchy songs. Also, Madonna’s songs always come with a provocative message or social agenda—which incites greater attention among her fans. Madonna ALWAYS performs live without any lip-sync and dances amazingly than Whitney’s cracky voice here.
Okay, its obvious that I’m a Madonna fan… But I love Whitney Houston’s 1980’s music too… you just can’t compare the Queen of Pop/Gay Icon to the Queen of Black R&B. Whitney Houston is not the equal of Madonna, so quit comparing Queerty.
The statistics for getting off crack for good are pretty damn bad. Lets just let her enjoy this moment before it all comes crashing around her again. 10…9….8….7……6…
Whats with the Whitney bashing? She said it her self that she’s taking it one step at a time. And last I check Whitney is a singer and Madonna is a performer so why compare the two SMH. As long as she’s around her family she can stick to sobriety.
Whitney is the best yet! No one can do it like Whit! I have waited sooooooooo long for this and it has been worth the wait!
I know we all should show love her much love, she has stepped out this far, we can not allow her to step away from us again! You can feel the pain of her abusive relationship, was he trying to destroy her? Whitney is a precious jewel who has been missed handled she now needs reasurance!
I feel no pain for Bobby right about now! What a fool! There is no way he or his family should have allowed this to happen to our precious jewel. It is as if he wanted her to fall, thank God for her Mother Cissy, daughter Bobbi Christina, the rest of her family and that Mr Clive Davis! My thank yous and prayers go out to you all!
Bring it on Whit! Don’t stop now! I have played her CD everyday since it dropped 31 August 2009! There is a message that is too strong not to learn from or share!
Whitney’s song definately is TOO MUCH of a throwback. Listen to Loleatta Halloway’s We’re Getting Stronger (I prefer actual old songs as opposed to these updated samples!). Except for the lyrics, the production/melody doesn’t have significant changes (oversampled!) Madonna, on the other hand, stays current (listen to her new Revolver).
When people ask, who was the biggest female star of the “MTV/80s/early 90s era”, you’ll hands down get a lot more Madonnas than Whitneys (and Janet Jackson arguably rivals at Whitney level!)
Umm what does Madge have to do with this? The biggest impression the interview left on me was that no matter how big the star, they’re still human beings who love and want to be loved. I love this retro feel of the song, mostly the bass riffs. Yes her voice has lost some of its shine, yes most of the tracks on this cd are “safe”, but I think they took the safer approach on this cd so she can get back on her feet emotionally and more secure in the public eye. If she is sober it must be incredibly hard to perform without a back stage “bump” or whatever and in alot of ways it’s like starting over. Love the song, love the cd, I plan to buy one, and I hope it does moderately well. Oh and I can’t wait for the remixes…
