You may remember Massachusetts-based antigay hate group MassResistence as the authors and peddlers of a book called âHazards of Homosexuality.â
Fliers touting its main selling points were included in the swag bags at the most recent Values Voters Summit, at which Donald Trump was the keynote speaker.
The group has made a name for itself pushing every debunked argument that terrified straight people and even more terrified closet cases have ever come up with about gay people â âwonât someone think of the children!?â is a personal favorite of theirs.
They just held their annual meeting and opened the âTeens4Truthâ event with the performance you are about to witness.

Fan dancing was popularized by Sally Rand in the 1930s – she was a stripper. She also owned 2 clubs in SF.
Fan dancing was popularized (again) in SF in the mid to late 70s at the Trocadero. A friend of mine did it there at the time and occasionally brought the fans out up to his mid 60s.

Nope. It’s real. The dancer is Derek Paul, a super-effeminate dude who describes himself as “ex-gay” (although he admits to still having temptations and urges) and who works with an “ex-gay” ministry called Identify Ministries. He used to be a male cheerleader, so this is probably his way of holding on to his old hobby and incorporating it into his ex-gayness.

Actually a very engaging dance. Yeah, the guy is dressed like a nerd, the flags aren’t really very rainbow flag like, not much yellow, and look more like he stole the petticoats of a few flamenco dancers, but he moves gracefully and almost joyfully to a song with the predominant words that “love keeps no records” or something. You dumb queens disparage things not for their intrinsic meaning or message but because of the supposed bias of who is delivering the message. Can you lipsynch “Newt Gingrich”, because ladies that’s who you sound like!

The depths of self-delusion that internalized homophobia can bring forth are astounding. It’s tempting to think that this was subterfuge, a gay man deliberately flaunting his gayness at a place where gayness is reviled, but I think he is quite serious. The confine of his self-loathing closet prevent him from recognizing his own tragic predicament.
