Barney Frank spoke with the Washington Post‘s Ed O’Keefe about disclosing his sexuality in 1987 and his advice for other out lawmakers. “When I decided to run, I said either you come out and become an activist and have a major role there or I run for Congress,” Frank said. “There was no way I could have been out and won. In the end I almost lost on suspicion.”

I wonder whatever happened to Stephen Gobie. (Barney’s young hustler pal in the ’80s, who involuntarily outed Barney.) He must be over 50 now. I’m imagining him as a bar back (that’s bar back, not “bareback”) in Key West or Palm Springs, still chasing after older guys with money?
