Donald Trump held another fundraiser at his Mar-A-Lago residence in Florida on Wednesday evening. This one was for John Gibbs, a former Trump administration official, who is running to unseat a Michigan GOP lawmaker Rep. Peter Meijer who voted to impeach Trump last year.
Among those attending appears to be a small group of gay supporters.
When the former President addressed the crowd, someone shouted out “Gays for Trump!”
Trump heard it and looked in the direction of the voice.
“Where’s Gays for Trump?” he asked.
Someone responds, “We’re over here!”
Trump looks at them and jokingly says, “You don’t look gay.”
The crowd all laughs, before Trump goes on to say, “We did great with the gay population, as you know.”

Peter Boykin, the founder of the Gays for Trump organization, told Newsweek that many in the group, “Probably wouldn’t ‘look gay’ because it’s a stereotype that fits more with the typical ‘look’ of leftist LGBT. Not saying some of us might look fabulous and ‘gay.’
“Otherwise it was a suit and tie event, so unless one of us was wearing a joker suit, meh.”

In case you need reminding, between 2017 and 2021, the advocacy group GLAAD kept a running count of all the Trump administration’s attacks on LGBTQ people. It totaled 181 by the time Trump left office, including his ban on trans people serving in the military and a move to allow federal employers to discriminate against LGBTQ just days before his departure from the White House.

@Max The best thing Trump did to protect LGBT (and everyone else) were his efforts to ban muslims/middle easterners from entering our country. For those who only watch CNN, the Quran is basically a textbook sized death warrant for homosexuals, and heavily discriminates against all the rest. Their religion and inherent violent nature is the perfect recipe for disaster. Take the Pulse Club shooting for example. Preventable tragedies sometimes have a way of jolting people to their senses, and probably how ‘gays for Trump’ became a thing

There are extremists in EVERY religion. I’m more concerned about Christian extremists in this country far more than a Muslim one. Just based on geography. LOL

Also many muslim-americans are highly educated, because they’ve been encouraged to do well academically by their immigrant parents. That academic achievement and empathy for other marginalized groups means that educated Muslims are much more likely to support gay and trans rights than educated Christians, who have never experienced marginalization themselves.
It’s already causing a reformation within American Muslim communities, and young Muslims may not need to feel like they are forced to choose between their family and their own personal happiness in the coming decades. But that really depends on how much solidarity there is between Muslim and Queer activists.
Young, educated Muslims are already dropping hate. They don’t see a reason to hang on to it, especially when it just pits marginalized people against each other and makes gay Muslims feel damaged by the religion.

According to GLAAD and a few other reputable surveys, among all LGBTQ voters, 81% voted for President-elect Biden and 14% for President Trump. Among first-time LGBTQ voters, 86% voted for President-elect Biden, 10% for President Trump. This is actually fewer than voted for Trump in 2016.
So, as pretty much everyone assumes, Trump’s statement about doing well with gays is simply another lie. Just as his claim to be winning over a large %age of blacks was.
