If you’re going to plop down $4 million for 30 seconds of air time during the Super Bowl, your ad better be good. In two cases, at least, the sponsors thought that being good meant being gay. And in one case, you’d have to know who was in the ad to know just how gay it was.
GoDaddy, the domain registration site whose previous Super Bowl ads have been an over-the-top celebration of heterosexuality, decided to focus more on humor this time out, with an ad called Bodybuilders. And review of bodybuilders would be complete without a gay porn star — or two. In this case, former stars Chris Wide and Vince Ferelli were among the buff pack that descends upon a spray tan salon. QueerMeNow has (very NSFW) background on the pair’s former careers, and screenshots of them on the set of the ad,
Moving from eye candy to soda: Coca-Cola included two gay fathers and their daughter in an ad the featured “America the Beautiful.” Coke has been getting a lot of heat from the LGBT community for its support for the Olympic games in Sochi and the attendant homophobia surrounding them.
The ad feels like a make-nice, although one ad is unlikely to work. More to the point, Coke has now angered the right-wing, which is furious that the ad featured a gay couple and people singing “America the Beautiful” in languages other than English. If the goal was to elicit responses somewhere between “meh” and “how dare you,” Coke succeeded.
Watch the ads for yourself.

That was cute.

How is the GoDaddy ad gay-friendly? It’s got body-builders. Whooptee-doo. They are probably very heterosexual body-builders who couldn’t care less about gay rights.
Increasingly, the gay community is becoming a laughing stock, seeing shout-outs in non-gay things, such as muscular men. What’s next? Tree trunks?

The right wingers don’t want to acknowledge that America is a diversified country. This denial will lead to their extinction.

@jckfmsincty: One can only hope.

I really don’t think this has anything to do with gay right. Most people won’t notice there are one gay and one bi in this CM except porn fans. Moreover, I didn’t notice there are gays in cokecola CM until you point out.

Any American anthem should be sung ONLY in ENGLISH
tardis
So, it was him. That face looked familiar!

@hotshot70: Agreed.

@hotshot70: Obviously English grammar is not important to you as evidenced by your missing period. I wish the people tweeting about the Coke commercial would at least type out their complaints using proper English grammar. For example, “your” is not the same as “you’re.”

@erasure25: And “they’re,” “there,” and “their” are three different words.
Joetx
@erasure25: Good job of nailing him.

I am sure L.A. Sports Club, Crunch, Gold’s Gym, World Gym and what is left of Bally’s all thank Godaddy.com for this commercial. It is now February and time for all forty-something queens to move into the gyms so that they can walk in the June pride-parades with their shirts off hoping they don’t look a day over thirty-seven.
Time to buy stock in the maker of Just for Men, girls. It will soon be flying off the shelf come the end of April.

Good HOMOS dad, are always the best! I mean look at me!.

@Bob LaBlah: Wow bob. Retract your claws in a little why don’t ya.

It’s funny how right-wing trolls don’t even read what they’re comenting on
LadywithaLamp
@Bob LaBlah: That was quite funny and so true, nice to see that some folks still manage the time honored tradition of the gay read. Thanks, I needed a good belly laugh in the one I have to lose by June 🙂

@Caleb in SC: Yes! As are congratulations and condragulations!
samwise343
@jimbryant: As the article points out, ffs, the ad has two gay porn stars in it. I’m really surprised that you don’t watch gay porn, jimbryant. I mean, there are no women in it.

@hotshot70: And, I assume that you speak Cherokee? Are you Creek or Choctaw? Seminole or Apache? You want the American anthem to be sung in a European language – such as English? Why is it that ignorant people always assume that they were found, fully formed, under a rock. You raped the land from Native Americans – and came in boats, like the Slaves that built this country, or the many brown people that feed you, and clothe you. Interestingly enough, this country is made great by their contributions, and why? Because they are worth more to the American dream, and contribute more to it as well.
The next time that you open your mouth – remember, English has been spoken here for less than 400 years, where as Spanish has been spoken here since 1513 (the first language of European languages on the American Continent) and Native Languages have been used for thousands of years in this nation. So, grow up, learn a new language and then shut up.
LadywithaLamp
@Maharajah: My Great Grandmother was a little girl on the Trail of Tears…That said. I think it rather stupid for you to blame ones ancestors and get all full of righteous indignation over some idiot comment by some unevolved boob. This land was built by many people and a great injustice was done to people of color whom I have noting but the utmost respect. I think it is more important to be here now and work on the current problems to try and build a better future.hotshot70 is a dinosaur, why waste words on those who cannot and will not hear?

While I agree that our national anthem should be sung in English, I find it sad that I have to point out that the song used in the ad is not our national anthem.
