Getting axed from Fox News must do wonders for your outlook on life. Just look at weepy conservative pundit Glenn Beck. Beck recently discussed same-sex marriage with comedian-magician (comician, if you will) Penn Jillette on his online talk show, The Blaze.
“Let me take the pro-gay marriage people and the religious people — I believe that there is a connecting dot there that nobody is looking at, and that’s the Constitution,” Beck said. “The question is not whether gay people should be married or not. The question is why is the government involved in our marriage?
Beck’s comments are not too surprising given that earlier this year he said he had the “same opinion on gay marriage as President Barack Obama” and that marriage equality is not a “threat to America.” What is surprising, however, is his advice to Republicans.
“What we need to do, I think, as people who believe in the Constitution, is to start looking for allies who believe in the Constitution and expand our own horizon,” Beck said. “We would have the ultimate big tent.”
How about we take this to the next level?
Our newsletter is like a refreshing cocktail (or mocktail) of LGBTQ+ entertainment and pop culture, served up with a side of eye-candy.
All this talk of gay marriage and expanding horizons and big tents sounds less like the Tea Party and more like a Tea Dance. Next thing you know, Glenn Beck is shirtless on a speaker gyrating to Rihanna. Yup, getting axed by Fox News sure does wonders.

The article you linked to that said “Earlier this year” is actually an article from Dec. 10th.
That’s not much earlier.

Your last paragraph provides us with a visual that we just don’t need and most certainly don’t deserve!!

It is good to be reminded that marriage is really a conservative cause of the right. Linking a set of civil rights to entering into a paternalistic institution that is discriminatory against unmarried people is regressive, and we really have no business trying to join this. It would help vastly more gay people if gay organizations supported universal health care, not just health benefits for married partners of those fortunate enough to have health benefits already. It would help more gay people if gay organizations supported tax, housing, visitation, and inheritance benefits for all gays, not just those who choose to or are fortunate enough to get married. As a single, gay, sex-positive, anti-war, not wealthy gay guy, I feel pretty much abandoned by the gay establishment. Your regressive flag-waving heteronormative assimilation is not my gay liberation.

@viveutvivas: Disagree. You come across as feeling so bad and bitter about your circumstances that you want to drag everyone else down to your level.

And what level would that be?

Allowing your political platform to be the Constitution is a great place to start actually. The Constitution and it’s amendments is a very just and fair document and does serve as a great guiding principle. It also allows for the separation of church and state. Unfortunately, Glenn Beck doesn’t do this. He is and always will be a double speak politician fighting for his uber religious right causes. Nothing he says surprises me anymore and I’m glad his voice and influence over other conservative sheep has been reduced to static.

@viveutvivas: As a gay, sex-positive, anti-war, never wealthy gay man, I feel abandoned by gay society because I’m over 25 and not fashion-driven. Yet, regarding equality of marriage, I’m 180 degrees opposite you: the US government is not going to let go of marriage (as a special arrangement for determining inheritance and benefits between two adults, anytime in the foreseeable future. Expanding it to be encompassing of all couples is major progress.
I do know one gay Republican who has a similar outlook to yours, but that’s because he has driven away every potential boyfriend he might have had.

Next up: Glenn Beck comes out and introduces America to his BF of 20 years.

@darkmoonman: He can’t do that. He is mormon. Pulleze make this wing nut go away!
