On today’s episode of The Ellen DeGeneres Show, singer and Vampire Diaries actress Kat Graham dedicated her performance of “Put Your Graffiti On Me” Show to Jennifer Tyrrell, a mother of four who was axed as a Boy Scouts den mother because she is a lesbian.
Graham, whose debut EP Against the Wall was released on iTunes today, began her performance with a message of inclusion: “In my scout troop everyone’s welcome!” The performer says she was inspired after hearing Tyrrell speak at the GLAAD Media Awards last month.

Seems like this is the easiest way for non-factor singers to get attention.

Yea, the real question is… Would this performance get any press if it weren’t for the topic she is referring to. After watching the video I would have to say HELL NO. I’m not gonna question her intentions but this chic’s already got 1 strike against her by many for the fact that Perez Hilton (her manager? friend? pimp? maybe all 3?) post about her about every hour and how she is about to be a “mega star”. Not with singing like that…not to mention not even Rihanna/Gaga/Katy Perry or any of the top female singers could make that song a hit!

@Oh, ok: My “claws” aren’t out, I’m just wondering. This is not an LGBT person. Her music is irrelevant. Nothing. A non-factor. Why is she being talked about here. I’m over these girls pandering to a gay audience because it’s the easiest way to get attention and “diva worship.” Sorry, but I’m just not buying. Ever.

I know there is a good chance she was just doing the Boy Scouts thing to gain attention/stand out to the gay community, but there is also the possibility that she genuinely cared about this particular topic and wanted to use something like Ellen as a platform to speak out about it (I mean she did include the link to a petition against what happened to that woman in the second video posted here). Maybe she has gay relatives or people in her family closely associated with the Boy Scouts? If I were her and had a gay brother/sister/aunt/uncle, etc. I would probably want to use a big platform like Ellen to shed light on a certain situation going on.

She doesn’t read sexy to me – just kinda desperate-to-be-more-famous. The cowbell part of the song is kinda cool, but the rest of it (especially her voice) is grating. I did lol when Ellen was forced to say ‘hit song’ off the teleprompter though.
