Kylie Minogue is teasing the November 29 release of her new concert album/DVD, Aphrodite Les Folies: Live In London, with this clip of her performing the Eurythmics’ “There Must Be An Angel (Playing With My Heart).”
Filmed over two nights at London’s The O2 Arena, the show highlights Minogue’s incredible presence and insistence on top-notch production values.
Why this woman isn’t may-jor in the U.S. we’ll never understand.

What a kitschy performance. Boring choreography, whiny voice.

I definitely prefer the original from the legendary Annie Lennox.

@Aaron: I have to agree. It was kitschy. Which is fine if that’s what she’s striving for but if you compare it to Madonna’s last concert, you can see a big difference. One is Las Vegas revue like and the other is an incredible concert experience.
Voice-wise, Kylie was never the strongest singer, like Madonna, Janet, JLo, etc. And this song, which is one of my favs, was a tough choice. She let the backup singers sing the harder parts. It was just ok.

I like Kylie, and love how she has embraced her gay fans.
That being said– this was a total stinker.
Singing someone else’ song is like borrowing
underwear. You have to have a lot of confidence in
the other person, and you have to have the goods to outshine.
Her voice is weak, and flat- the dancing is like a cheap
Vegas R-rated strip show.
I like some of her other stuff, this was just a big bad mistake.

And there we have it people. The reason she’s not so big in the US is because four out of four respected critics think she stunk. And for once I have to agree with the group on this one. I can sing all the high notes in this and I think she should have attempted at least the last chorus, that would have wowed everyone. On the other hand, She does know how to make a concert seem like a circuit party! Anybody have the angel’s phone number?

In Kylie’s defense, she sang this song at her Washington D.C. tour stop on the “Aphrodite 2011 Tour” and Kylie, her back-up vocalists, and her dancers did a wonderful job. Her entire show was incredible and I would see her again- her voice is amazing when you hear it live!

Kylie’s done some fantastic numbers live, but that’s not one of them.
Here she is at Jools Holland’s live recording for the Annual Hootenanny: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A9io301mKZ0

I watched the concert, and it’s amazing. I’m marking the calendar for the DVD release. That being said, this may have not been the strongest number.
The stage had some technical features I haven’t seen anybody else do, D&G did the wardrobe (I’m sure they’ll take the kitschy feed-backs in account lol), choreography is smart and sophisticated (and boys and girls don’t mix 😉 ), the stage is massive.
IMHO after going through the cancer scare, Kylie went all out with this tour artistically and technically. Rent it/buy it/don’t miss it.

She was amazing live when I saw her in Texas. She even sang acapaella and sounded incredible. She’s got a great tone and better range than people realize. People bitch when women oversing like Christina, Beyonce and Mariah, they bitch when they can’t sing live (Britney, Janet) and they bitch when they’re actually decent singers (Madonna, Kylie) but not technically skilled like Whitney Houston.
Kylie should be a major star in the US and I’ve always loved her music more than GaGa or Brit. She’s not in Madonna’s league but she’s still awesome.

You guys say “kitschy” like it’s a bad thing.
I don’t know why Americans dislike Kylie. I think Americans just don’t know how to have fun.

Actually, I think this amateur vid of the same number (in Berlin) does a much better job of capturing Kylie’s star power: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CROb7jYqyS0

Minogue is quite a showman; I wouldn’t mind seeing her in concert. She can’t hold a candle to Annie Lennox, but, not for nothing, she certainly wants to entertain her fans.

Oh come on people, you’re reaching.
Having b een in the Splash Zone of the Aphrodite tour, I can tell you that she absolutely blew us away with this song, and would’ve done Ms Annie proud.
Are you listening to her at the end of the bridge? A-may-zing.
She has far more stage presence than even the Madonna’s of the world. Such lightness and pure happiness comes from this woman she sings, and this tour was absolutely BEYOND anything anyone has done as a pop tour.
Kylie absolutely raped the competition with this show. Even just in terms of stagecraft.
I’ve yet to see another pop star leave half the crowd soaking wet 😉

Kylie is the Queen of The Gays.
Bow down and worship bitches!

I would love for Adele to sing this.

@Aaron:
Aaron!!!! leave her alone LOL

Actually, I was prepared to hate this as you’ve gotta be a singer to take on Annie Lennox, but I am quite impressed. Nice job. Sure she can’t compare to Annie – who can?- but still fun and sweet.

Don’t know why she chose to cover that song when she does a fine job of her own:

It was smug/stupid of her to think she had the pipes to tackle that song.
