Lady Gaga released the music video to her latest single “Applause” this morning while on Good Morning America, following a live appearance from Mama Monster herself.
In the eye-catching clip, directed by fashion photographers Inez and Vinoodh, Gaga pops out of a magician’s hat and pulls out some haute couture tricks — though the best look may be the bustier that looks like a pair of hands cupping her breasts. Of course, one can never go wrong with a giant mannequin’s leg-cornucopia.
Whether the video will warm the tepid response the single has received thus far will be seen as the Lady’s Monsters rally and refresh to break YouTube records.
Lady Gaga is set to perform “Applause” live for the first time at this Sunday’s VMAs on MTV. Watch her interview from GMA below where she chats about her broken hip and her new ARTPOP look:
How about we take this to the next level?

I’m living for this video right now 🙂 . It has so many characters once need to watch it to understand what’s happening 🙂 Well done , Lady Gaga .

Should have retired after the hip surgery. Time to shove out the next single to salvage the album.

The apparent fact that she can’t handle coming in second to Katy Perry irritates me. And I don’t particularly like Katy Perry but she seems to have her ego in check.

Yawn. The fake gay advocate Lady Gaga must be stupid if she thinks that her nudity appeals to gay men.

The song is growing on me. The video? One wonders if it’s symbolic of GaGa going through an identity crisis of sorts. Maybe a response to Weird Al Yankovic’s parody of GaGa, “Perform this way”. Kind of like she’s owning the fact that, yes, this is how she performs, seeking herself as a work of art.
As for the song, it seems an honest enough statement – she lives for the acclamation and affirmation she gets back from her fans. Also, maybe a means for her to focus on the positive aspects of her fame instead of letting the critics get her down.
Regardless, I found the “Born This Way” album uneven, and if GaGa is having trouble figuring out who she is as her career evolves, it will almost certainly show in her music. I guess we’ll have to wait to see whether this bears out once the album is released.

@Brian: You statement would seem to presume that GaGa’s audience is exclusively gay men.
Perhaps the less I say about how completely idiotic that presumption would be, the better.
Brian
Eloreigh,
Oh but she doesn’t hesitate to claim us when it suits her. Gay men should disown her.

@Brian: What makes her a “fake” gay advocate?
